Yes, he was talking about the United States. While he ruefully admitted the mortgage meltdown and credit crunch were creating "some storm clouds and concern," he blamed much of the current problems on Democrats in Congress.

"The Congress cannot take economic vitality for granted," the AP reports. "The most negative thing Congress can do in the face of economic uncertainty is to raise taxes on the American people," Bush said. And even the most specially screened audience isn't buying his particular line of BS anymore. The AP continues: "The audience of roughly 80 people listened to Bush with respectful silence. Yet a line that normally gets him applause — 'I'll veto any tax increase' — drew no reaction at all."

Continuing his delusion, Mensa Man also seems to believe he has some influence over Russia. Reuters reports that: "Bush said on Monday he supports Russia sending enriched uranium to Iran for civilian power use because it meant that Tehran did not need to pursue their own enrichment capabilities. 'If the Russians are willing to do that, which I support, then the Iranians do not need to learn how to enrich. If the Iranians accept that uranium for a civilian nuclear power plant, then there's no need for them to learn how to enrich.' Russia has delivered the first shipment of nuclear fuel to Iran's Bushehr atomic power station."

Finally, in the wacky world of campaign politics, Holy Joe Lieberman has endorsed John McCain for president. Many political pundits are stunned that the former Democratic Vice Presidential candidate would endorse a Republican for president . . . why? Given Lieberman's shared bloodlust with McCain for war in the mid east, it would be more shocking if he endorsed anyone else. He probably hopes McCain would make him Secretary of Holy War, er, I mean Defense.

I crocheted an afghan and Sebastian does appreciate it and will sleep under it. His claws do get into the yarn and has snagged a few spots.

The fleece blankets seem to be tough and warm enough, but there is something about the fuzzy texture that the cat loves. He does a lot of digging and kneading the blanket before he will lay down.

So, there are my comparative observations for yarn vs fleece.

reports coming in. Mr. smokey woke me up to tell me that there was nasty shit going down in Ohio, he said people were waiting for hours to vote and something smelled fishy. I quit smoking on Labor Day weekend 2004, I took it up again on Nov. 3, after Kerry conceded. :(

135. We waited an hour and a half to vote.

We were normally able to walk straight in to vote. There were tons of kids in there with Kerry written all over their faces and Vote or Die! shirts on. WE felt so good standing in line. The rest of the night was heartbreaking.
