Poll question: Do you recognize in the Afghanistan/Iraq wars genocide and/or religous persecution?
And if you are a minority -- "person of color" --
do you think that you more easily recognize and identify with these persecutions?

1. I voted 'both'.

As for your other question... I'm not sure what skin color has to do with how easily one identifies with and recognizes religious persecution. One doesn't have look back very far in history to find evidence of whites persecuting other whites for religious reasons.

I'm Caucasian, and I hope this doesn't disqualify me from attempting to answer here, but I don't categorize people by color, or religious/nonreligious preference. I see all people as part of the HUMAN RACE. When genocide is committed and when a group is persecuted, I believe, we all suffer for it. A person that doesn't equate the suffering of another to that of a personal loss or, at least, empathize is somehow disconnected... ignorant, possibly, with sociopathic tendencies, IMO.

2. My answer doesn't fit into any of them
I think we are in the middle of a civil war in both countries. I believe Iraq was better off before we went in. Saddam was an ass, but he also kept stopped the two sides from slaughtering each other. Afghanistan COULD have been much better off after we went in if we had just stayed until it was stable. Now, thanks to drug money, the radical Muslims there are once again putting a strangle hold on the people there. The Taliban simply outgun the rest of the Afganis.

The whole thing was a complete fuck up from day one. Iraq never should have happened and Afghanistan could have been a huge success if not for the total incompetence of our current Administration. I still have hope that we can turn things around in 2009.

As a woman I sit and watch as once again the women of these countries are the ones who will once again end up the losers. They will be again be forced into slave like conditions (by religious extremists who value livestock more then they value women) that none of us here can even begin to imagine. I will never understand how the men in these cultures can behave so barbarically, all in the name of their God.
