Storm Buries Northeast, Causes 3 Deaths
Storm Buries Northeast, Causes 3 Deaths

BOSTON (AP) - Motorists slid off roads Sunday as a wind-blown brew of snow, sleet and freezing rain cut visibility and iced over highways from the Great Lakes to New England.

At least three traffic deaths have been blamed on the storm.

The National Weather Service posted winter storm warnings from Michigan and Indiana all the way to Maine. Around a foot of snow had fallen on parts of the Chicago area, with 10 inches in Vermont. Meteorologists said that 18 inches was possible in northern New England; more snow was still expected in parts of Michigan.

"Our biggest advice right now is, stay home," said Maine State Police Sgt. Andrew Donovan. Visibility in the blowing snow was less than 200 yards, and in stronger gusts "if there's a car in front of you, you can't even see it," he said.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office in northwestern Ohio declared roads off limits to non-emergency vehicles, declaring that anyone else traveling through was subject to arrest.

1. Yeah, it's blowing around out there and the freezing rain is coming down. Gonna be a mess in the
morning and I will have to make a new path across the field for the kids when they come up from the bus after school.

2. I hope you and yours stay safe. All we had was a few early morning flurries here
in East Tennessee this morning. They lasted about 30 mins... nothing to worry about. Hell, they get a half an inch here and the state shuts down for 3 days... LOL!

:hi:

3. Kids were so mad this morning. Not even a delay for school. LOL But hubby said
that the roads were very icy in some spots, so people still had to be careful.

4. Yea, I'm in MA and we got about 9 inches of snow and a lot of ice.
It's still very windy, the Nor'easter is still making an exit and it's 23 degree's
but feels like 8 degree's with the wind chill. My car doors are frozen shut.
I'm waiting for my son to wake up and get out there and help me break into my car
so I can go to the store! :P

6. We're fine now but my back hurts a little...
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 07:17 PM by Breeze54
we got the doors open but the windows were all frozen shut but they defrosted after I ran the heater
for an hour while running errands. My son got stuck clearing out our two parking spaces and he was
tired from chopping the ice and frozen snow but now it's clear and we can park with ease. My car was
frozen in place after the plow dumped huge chunks behind my back wheels so I couldn't back out.
Altogether we got 18 inches of snow Thursday (9") and then more on Saturday/Sunday (9"), then it
rained sleet and rain and then that all froze over. It's cold here - 20 degree's but feels like 12
degree's with the wind but we're warm and toasty inside! Hope you are staying warm too! :hi:
