God is a Bullet
Those of you who know and share some of my musical tastes may recognize this thread title as that of a song by Concrete Blonde, the most underrated and, in my opinion, one of the greatest alternative bands ever.

I recently loaded this song, among others, on my ipod. At the end of the song there's a spoken, nearly screamed, line which says "John Lennon, Dr. King, Harvey Milk--gone for goddamn nothing. God is a bullet, have mercy on us everyone."

The first two names I caught instantly, having grown up listening to the Beatles and having always greatly admired MLK. I knew I recognized the third name, however, and, just to make sure, I did a web search. Anyone who doesn't know the name should do the same.

I think it's great that Johnette and Company included his name in this song, in this way. "Gone for goddamn nothing."

Damn straight.

We've lost too many to an assassin's bullet. Too many fine people.

And here's to hoping we lose no more.

1. Twinkie Defense
Harvey Milk's murderer got off because of the "Twinkie Defense".

Milk's murderer claimed that the murdered could not be held responsible for killing Milk because the murderer's body chemistry had been upset by all the junk food (including Twinkies) he had eaten. The legal system bought that argument, and Milk's murderer walked out -- HE GOT AWAY WITH MURDER.

Trivia Question: Who assumed Harvey Milk's job when he died?

4. I dunno but the loathsome Diane Feinstein became the mayor of SF
because George Moscone the mayor was also killed by the same assassin. This is what started her "meteoric" rise to power in the US senate. So I guess we have that asshole killer to blame for that. BTW, I believe the killer offed himself a couple of years later.

5. That's Who I Had In Mind!
I am TOTALLY embarrassed.

I had Diane Feinstein in mind when I asked the trivia question.

I had forgotten that she took the job that Moscone had -- NOT the job that Milk had.

Thank you for pointing that out!!
