Poll question: As of today, who do you really want for the Democratic nominee for President?
I know not all of these are declared candidates, I just want to know who you really want for the nominee - regardless of considerations such as "electability" and all that crap. These are listed in alphabetical order.

1. John Edwards.
Very enthusiastic about Biden, Dodd, Kucinich, Obama, and Richardson and Gravel as well, and will support any of our 8 against any of the Red 8 in the general.

3. Edwards was impressive on the talk shows today.
He made a clear distinction between himself and Obama - that Obama thinks change can happen through compromise with the powers that be, while Edwards believes that the powers that be will never give up any power without a fight.

and I think the two of them together are just electric.

The crowds seem to think so, too.

but Elizabeth was quietly forceful (I'm talking about the Today Show takedown.)

17. I think that Edwards might just grab it. From what I have read, Iowa voters
are very pragmatic, very kitchen-table issues, and see right through the smoke and mirrors of politics to the issues that really matter to them - and Edwards seems to be talking about those issues the most. Garrison Keilor recently wrote a good article about the "driveway philosophers" of Iowa:

34. Thanks for that link, bob_weaver. I hadn't seen it, but Keillor is
at least as good as a columnist as he is on PRAIRIER HOME COMPANION.

Your read on Iowans' ability to boil it down to basics sound exactly right to me. That would favor Senator Biden on foreign policy, IMO, and John Edwards on domestic policy.

And the test of our field of candidates is that you could substitute Richardson and Kucinich in that formula and still be well within zone. And others as well.

It's a deep blue bench. And Iowa Democrats get first trip to the buffet.

In spite of getting marginalized as hicks and rubes often on DU, Iowans are actually very tough customers.

The primary purpose of polling these days is to get good results and create a "bandwagon" effect -- hoping that most people will go with whoever is leading.

16. Well, it's not my intention with this poll. I wanted this to be a poll of
who you really want in your heart of hearts, despite any other considerations, like "who has the best chance at defeating the Republican candidate," and all that stuff. I really want Kucinich, but I can see how the commercial media is ignoring him, thereby dooming his campaign.

I want Dennis, but I can see how the commercial media is either marginalizing him or just flat-out ignoring him. The commercial media has already decided in their colletive mind that it can only be Clinton, Obama or Edwards. Faced with that choice I would choose Edwards but I really want Kucinich.

54. Its interesting how the corporately owned conservative biased main stream media,
can manipulate the political process along with the minds of voters, and people that claim to see and know what the media is doing, go right along with those who don’t. At what point does it begin to register that elections are stolen by the media before the poles are even open? A Democracy that allows the media to use mind control to win elections is not a Democracy, and anyone who is elected through this fraudulent media process is a non-democratic criminal who will be nothing but a puppet of those that own the media. Politicians favored by the msn will not solve our problems, they are part of the problem…

59. And how they can doom the campaign of someone like Dennis Kucinich, by not giving him airtime
They can effectively wipe a candidate off the map simply by choosing to ignore the candidate, as they are doing now with Kucinich. I'm surprised they are even giving Edwards any airtime, since he represents a threat to corporate-dominated government. Personally I don't think of the commercial media as conservative-biased, I think of them as capitalist-biased. That's just my own view though.

23.  To be honest I don't know , these are not debates
They are TV produced jokes , who can tell anymore who is for what .

This is a horse race with the main picks backed by all the gambling money it's a game and it can even be a fixed game .

I would never have though all those years ago someone like Oprah would be out there backing anyone as if her word really has a place in our future . I have never seen anything like this and I thought the stealing of two elections was the end , well we have not seen the end of the madness yet and people hope and pray as if anyone of these candidates will somehow save the planet , the people need to save the planet and end the madness , not join in on it . You can sell anyone anything if you package it just right .

I just want someone who is honest and see's the problems clearly and has a real workable plan ready to go .

These people are not stars , they are politicians who work for the people , you forget that and you end up with what you were sold on .

al gore's time to enter the race has come and gone- at this point i'd lose a lot of respect for the man if he decided to jump into the race, this late in the contest(and no- you can't compare it to past election seasons, because of how the primary contests have been scheduled this time around).

it's gotta be John Edwards.

And I mean telling the truth--regardless of calculated political consequences. Gore and Kerry ran calculated, political campaigns. Look where it got them. In a race close enough to be stolen. I think Edwards understands this.
