Working Assets, Veterans for Peace, CODEPINK, Iraq Veterans Against The War, and Gold Star Families for Peace are teaming up to deliver phone cards to vets stuck at Veterans Administration hospitals, so they can call their loved ones over the holidays. (The VA generally doesn't cover the cost of these calls.)

4. I did this last year and it is so rewarding

I also just read an article in the Wash Post about veterans' charities ripping off donors. And I can happily report that this cause is NOT a ripoff. We personally handed these phone cards to veterans in their hospital rooms.

I just gave 15 vets a two-hour phone card each.

Damn, that felt good.

I have been in their place before, and I know how much things such as this can mean to someone laid up in some miserable hospital.
