Barf. At least they won't likely be reproducing. She is 45.

2. Well, where are they going to live? FL or CA - shouldn't one of
them give up their seat? I've never been impressed with either Rep. Maybe they both will retire to spend more time with their families. A person can hope. Two empty heads now joined as one - gag!

And they'll spend a few days now and then back in their districts. But in reality they'll be living together in DC.

5. so they "live" and work in DC?,,but have houses/condos in TWO different
states, a whole country apart, and get to represent those TWO states?? That sort of smells..

I know it's "legal", but they should have to CHOOSE where they actually reside, as a couple..and one should give up their congressional seat..

6. I think there's a fair amount of that
I think (although I'm not sure) that there are other married couples in that situation.

I do know that a lot of Senators and Representatives live in DC with their families. Their kids go to school in that area, etc. When they retire or are defeated, they often stay in DC and get jobs there (frequently as lobbyists), and they and their families stay there.

When they get elected, they don't just serve in DC. They become DC residents in every real sense and just retain an address in their home district or state.

This ought to be good..........How will they spin this? If she claims California and lives in Fla....and visits her home in Ca....then that's not representing her community.:grr:

10. Connie Mack is short for Cornelius Alexander Mack
Which was originally Cornelius Alexander McGillicuddy. He is the great-grandson of Connie Mack who owned and managed the Philadelphia Athletics baseball team in the early part of the 20th century.

has a certain ring to it.

And don't be so sure about the reproducing thing. 45 isn't that old in the world of today's reproductive advances. She might just surprise us all and pop out a litter of 6 or more. :eyes:

Bono: widow of rep
Mack: son of senator

And I'm sure that were this two Democrats getting married, there would be toasts, congratulations, and best wishes all around.

to win their respective seats...on their own merits?
Okay...

Look, I know that nepotism is also a...uh...uh...touchy...subject for Dems
Did someone say Kennedy? Did someone say Clinton?
Oh, that's right...I did

24. I understand the claim of nepotism as it relates to their elected offices
Edited on Sun Dec-16-07 01:41 PM by onenote
I have no idea what "nepotism nuptials" is supposed to mean.

And as for the claim that the election of Bono and Mack to their respective office's is
an example of "nepotism" -- well, nepotism generally is considered to be the practice of showing favoritism toward one's family members or friends in economic or employment terms. While both Mack and Bono were able to take advantage of their names and family connections when they ran, they weren't appointed to their jobs, they were elected. Sonny, who was dead, certainly didn't do anything to promote his wife's election (apart from dying, of course).

Pretty tortured use of the concept of nepotism. Now, JFK's appointment of Bobby to be AG - that could be considered nepotism (not that it bothered me at all).

11. So Mary Mack, who's now married to a Floridian, and who hasn't really lived here
since Sonny died, gets to remain MY congresscritter:grr:

Suppose one of them gets un-elected? do they go back "home", or remain with the one who's still in DC?

Just another reason why I favor term limits.. They get so entrenched in DC politics, the only time they "return" to their districts, is when they want votes or money..They don't "live" there...especially after 5 or 6 terms in office....they are DC residents.. their kids go to school there, live there and call DC home..Home is where their family is..

15. Why can't they get rid of her
I don't think she gets much respect from other GOP'ers in Congress, so she can't be very effective in getting things done for her district. I recall when the GOP was in control of Congress, she had one of the worst office locations, way off in the hinterlands, a sure sign of disrespect from them.

Isn't there a Dem who has been able to challenge her?

17. Yeah, but it's alot harder, all the way around. I had my last at 41
and wasn't and still isn't easy. I just don't have as much energy as I did when I was younger. THankfully, I have more patience. Maybe with her political career, she and Con Mack will decide not to.

Having kids at any age isn't a picnic.......and since when is being over 40 old?

People are living to be 100. I say, take vitamins. ;)

34. I don't handle the aches and pains as well as when I was younger.
Edited on Sun Dec-16-07 06:13 PM by Ilsa
My joints don't take falls as well, which I found out 10 months ago.

I never said being 40 was "old". But there are changes occurring related to waning hormones, etc. Vitamins help, but they don't cure the changes aging brings.

As for reproduction, there are also increases in health risks to the fetus related to both maternal and paternal aging.

16. She must have spent all of Sonny's money
probably left only with a few residuals and I can't imagine there are many royalties. He didn't write many songs. He knew how to create and income for himself by letting the GOP and business leaders buy his influence. Mary must not be as good at bringing home the bacon.

30. Sonny's mother hated her
and resented her for abandoning her children and taking off for Washington.

(snip)

In the last weeks of the campaign, Mrs. Bono's effort was marked by family discord. Mr. Bono's mother, Jean, openly opposed her daughter-in-law's candidacy, contending that she should stay home with her two small children.
