Romney and the gray sideburns.

I've always chuckled at men (particularly politicians) who diddle with their hair trying to hold back the tides of change: Sam Donaldson and his horrible rug. Ditto Trent Lott. Reagan's bizarre hair color.

Giuliani has it right -- he does nothing.

Romney has gone with the greased back black hair with two inches of gray sideburns. In 2002, he was taking exactly the same approach. Gee, Mitt, ain't it cool how your graying stopped right there at the top of the old sideburns? It makes me laugh and, coupled with his vacuous stare and tendency to bullshit, keeps me from listening to him.

I think it's real. The hair on his head is dark mixed with silver. I've seen a lot of gray beards. Don't get me wrong, I'm not fan of mittens but I think the hair is all natural, aside from the blow drying and gobs of product.

I might be inclined to believe that his hair color is natural, until I saw the film on Meet the Press this morning from 2002. Exactly the same progress of gray in his side burnes.

I think he spends big bucks on getting his hair colored, and it looks kinda real, other than the Crisco look.

I used to be a genius colorist. Granted, I did not see him this morning but the effect you're speaking of would be almost impossible to achieve. In fact, the only way I know that one could get that effect is by applying white shoe polish with a toothbrush - which is more of a makeup trick then an actual color process. It also doesn't account for the individual silver hairs running all over his crown. You can't get that by pulling hairs through a tipping cap. Here's another photo that better shows his gray:
