Either This Country Still Has A Conscience Or NOT..... WHICH IS IT?
Secret Prison?
Torture?
Extraordinary Rendition?
Selective Prosecution of Protestors?
Politicization of DOJ?
State's Secrets Privilege?
Gagging Sibel Edmonds?
Allowing New Orleans to Drown?
Denying Children Healthcare?
Rich Get Richer, Millions More Sink Into Poverty?

I could go on.... But really, do the great majority of the people of this country still have a conscience or not?

If yes, what are they doing about it?

5. NOT
We're a nation of criminals and cowards until the corrupt bastards in the regime are prosecuted and imprisoned for the atrocities they've committed in our name.

6. Maybe here on DU
But most other places not

Especially NOT on airplanes or at protests, where one wrong move could get the cops on your back and a taser ending your life

7. I,...really,...don't know, anymore.
I suppose one can have a conscience while simultaneously being in denial or apathetic or helpless/powerless or whatever.

I always remember that, the CM not only reports government produced lies about crimes but also about the pulse and thoughts of the American people.

So, I don't know. I'd like to believe the majority of people in our country have one.

8. It seems to me this is a black and white issue.... And cannot be avoided.
If we as a people do have a conscience, then we need to act consistent with it.

I think back to the reports that our Allied troops made the German civilians walk by the concentration camps, view the torture chambers, and view the graves with bodies and ovens where prisoners were incinerated. And it was reported they claimed they had no idea what was going on.

Will Americans claim they had no idea that we are torturing prisoners in their name? etc.

THere is a parallel -- that moral responsibility cannot be shirked with an excuse of ignorance when there is already so much evidence of wrongdoing.

9. there was a generation of brave men and women
that gave their lives either in death or body and mind to stop those who tortured human beings. there are those now who dishonor their sacrifice.
senator dodd`s father was steadfast against all others in demanding that those responsible for the deaths of millions through torture to stand trial so that we as nation can say we demand justice and honor in trying men who did these things. now we have said we no longer honor these principals.now our leaders have joined the very people we held accountable in the city of Nuremberg

11. Not, but to admit America has no conscience would be a burden

12. No country has a consicence.
only individuals do. And furthermore, there are an enormous number of people in this country who are clueless. They don't have any idea what the gov't is doing. So disregard those people. Then there are the "my country can do no wrong crowd". They clearly don't have a conscience. There are the people that do care and do have a conscience. I think they're in the majority but I sure wouldn't swear to it.

13. Got to go with not
Too many people willing to make excuses
Too many people willing to to look the other way and pretend
Too many people willing to cheer it on
Too many people that just don't care
