***DUzy Awards for week ending December 14, 2007***

Welcome to the DUzy Awards, honoring baleful bumptiousness, bleary babble and bratty barking from this week on DU. Congratulations to this week's winners!

Victims of their own success, the DUzies will be announced every Friday, if I get around to it. Previous awards can be found in my journal.

Note to Mods: Skinner has authorized the DUzy Awards to be posted in GD.

Special thanks to KitchenWitch, unhappycamper, Southpawkicker, AZDemDist6, proud2Blib, Breeze54, scarletwoman, Lars39, SeattleGirl, Kurovski, blondeatlast, Drum, Buzz Clik, dicksteele, badgerpup, Joan_Alpern, eleny, hootinholler, Heidi, AZDemDist6, billyskank, Call Me Wesley, BushDespiser12, KamaAina, temeah, stellanoir and NanceGreggs for their invaluable assistance.

Some leftovers might appear next week, if the DUzies appear next week.

***BREAKING!!!*** New GG Sentinel poll has Kucinich leading with 100%; all others tied for 2nd.
The latest poll from the Garden Gnome Sentinel has Dennis Kucinich leading all presidential candidates (including GOP) with 100% of all registered Gnomes who are likely to vote in the general election. Senior Political Correspondent, Beardy McPointyhat said, "Kucinich is the overwhelming favorite here, which is no surprise. He has led this poll every week since he first announced his candidacy in 2004." Inexplicably, none of the candidates are planning to spend any campaign resources wooing the gnome vote.

I read the same in Better Gnomes and Gardens!
It must be true!

I really like him. Seriously. We need someone who is waaaaaay far out of the box.

President Bush Declares Himself A Disaster
President Bush Declares Himself A Disaster
Published: 12/8/07, 8:11 PM EDT
By Ghost in the Machine

Washington, D.C.. (Asinine Press) - President Bush declared a federal disaster for himself Saturday, clearing the way for federal aid after severe lies and cover-ups devastated his credibility and his administration.

The declaration provides recovery assistance to the entire Bush administration and his family. Bush has pledged to send himself a $450 Billion Dollar assistance package

State and federal officials said further assistance is expected to follow as the damage evaluations are done. Rubberstamp Republicans and members of the Federal Emergency Management Agency are expected to tour the White House Sunday.

The administration saw severe lying, cover-ups and incompetence as the result of policies that were made between Jan. 20, 2001 to present, largely affecting the United States, as well as Afghanistan and Iraq. Over one million people have died in Iraq, and another 20,000 died in Afghanistan, not including 3886 American Soldiers.

Under Saturday's declaration, the federal government will reimburse 100 percent of the public cost for disaster response in the Bush administration, to the Bush family. It also creates a grant program that would provide federal money to take steps to enrich the Bush family and their cronies in the future, and allowing Jeb Bush to steal an election at some point in the future.

Stupidest. Freeper. Comment. EVER!! I'm SERIES!!
This article in my local paper is about a guy claiming he was fired for writing a LTTE saying Bush should be impeached.

http://www.kansascity.com/115/story/396117.html

So after the article, I posted this comment:

Is it fascism yet?

And right after my comment a freeper named Alexis posted this:

Why would we need Mr. Kniest smart remark about our PRESIDENT i don't belive this is about color as the writer wrote before me. There was a time it was illegal to talk about our Chief Commander of the USA.We have a security problem in this country if your an AMERICAN Please stick together no matter what party is in office...

It took me a minute, it is so stupid. But I kept going back to that sentence I bolded:

"i don't belive this is about color as the writer wrote before me."

Then I finally figured it out. This incredibly dumb and functionally illiterate freeper thinks 'fascism' is a color!! He thinks I am talking about FUSCHIA!!

response #1 by DemGa:

Maybe they didn't recognize "fascism" as a word
and thought you meant "racism."

response #55 by WolverineDG:

      Racism, fascism, same thing
Poor thing needs to cut bigger holes in his pillowcase before he tries to read.

response #57 by KansDem:

Careful, "Fascist Fuchsia" could become the next trendy color...
...replacing "mauve"

And I'd like the "bonus room" to be done in "fascist fuchsia," please...

Remember "avocado" and "burnt umber" from the 1960s and 1970s?

Other colorful responses in the thread.

World War III - 1st Round Tournament Brackets
Based on "Global Fire Power Rankings" from:
http://www.globalfirepower.com

Let's take a look at first round matches. Remember - nuclear weapons are not permitted until the semi-finals!

----------
1 - United States
16 - Iran

Coach Cheney was quite excited about drawing Iran in the first round.
----------

2 - Russia
15 - Canada

Russia was hoping to start with a 3rd-World country in the 1st round. Canada wishes it was hockey.
----------

3 - China
14 - Mexico

China's 14:1 ratio in Military personel is going to be hard for Mexico to overcome.
----------

4 - India
13 - Indonesia

India has big leads in almost every department (Spending, personel, armor, artillery, aircraft)
----------

5 - Germany
12 - South Korea

One of the most interesting 1st round match-ups. Both countries anticipated a fight for some time - just with somebody else.
----------

6 - France
11 - Italy

The 1st round's only neighboring countries.
----------

7 - Japan
10 - Great Britain

A re-match from WW-2
----------

8 - Turkey
9 - Brazil

WTF?

response #2 by KitchenWitch:

Oh Kewl - International March Madness.

response #9 by KamaAina:

Wouldn't that be International March MADness?
At least when we get to the nukes? :nuke:

response #4 by JonathanChance:

And Now analysis from Jimmy the Geek! and a prieview of the 2nd confrence matchups.
1 - United States
16 - Iran
---------------------------------
This one could go either way. If Iran can effectivly deploy sunburn missiles, it's Good-bye US Navy. No Navy, Iran will have a much Easier time. I pick Iran to pull of the major upset.

2 - Russia
15 - Canada
---------------------------------
This is a sure, bet folks. Russia's gonna roll right over the Canadians.

3 - China
14 - Mexico
---------------------------------
Another Sure Bet. Mexico does not have a prayer.

4 - India
13 - Indonesia
---------------------------------
This one's going to be interesting. India seems to have the advantage here, however, they're going to be bogged down island hopping, which coach Patil says has been their biggest weakness this season, meaning this could be a good one. I pick India on a squeaker.

5 - Germany
12 - South Korea
---------------------------------
This is going to be good. The best main battle tanks and combat equipment in the world face off against a country that has been preparing for a major fight for over 50 years. However, without the US to bail them out, Germany's gonna kicking ass like it's 1939. I pick Germany.

6 - France
11 - Italy
---------------------------------
France has some major rage here over the World Cup loss and is looking for revenge. Also, with 2 CATOBAR Aircraft carriers going up agaisnt one VSTOL Carrier, I thing France is going to rule the day here. I think they are going to go quite far in this tournament. Viva la France!

7 - Japan
10 - Great Britain
---------------------------------
Britannia still rules the waves, baby! Since the Japanese "Self Defense Forces" have no antiship missile capability and very, very little boots on the ground combat experience, expect the Union Flag and White Ensign to fly over Tokyo very Quickly.

8 - Turkey
9 - Brazil
---------------------------------
This is simple folks, Brazil has a carrier, and will beat Turkey by well, a Brazillion!

And now for Division 2!

1 Israel
16 Switzerland
---------------------------------
This is going to be a bloodbath, folks. Switzerland is the most underrated country in this tournament. Switzerland's Citizen Soldiers will roll all over the Israelis. There's a reason that nobody fucks with the Swiss.

2 Finland
15 Sweden
---------------------------------
Give this one to the Finns, these guys have a history of kicking ass and taking names when they get pissed off, and there's a lot of bad blood between these two teams.

3 Poland
14 Ireland
---------------------------------
It will all come down to which side's soldiers actually remember to pull the pins on their grenades before throwing them. I'm giving this one to the Irish.

4 Pakistan
13 Egypt
---------------------------------
This is going to close to call, folks I say go with your gut and cross your fingers on this one. I'm picking Egypt to pull off the upset.

5 South Africa
12 New Zealand
---------------------------------
Talk about your rivalries. Springboks vs. All Blacks. I'll give this one to South Africa, they've been looking strong this combat season and have good hustle.

6 Australia
11 Argentina
--------------------------------
I pick Australia. They've been looking strong, and are going up against the most ovverated nation in this tournament. I predict a repeat of the 1982 match against the UK.

7 Thailand
10 North Korea
--------------------------------
Two nations, two batshit crazy leaders, one with a definite manpower advantage. I'm still giving this one to the Thais, All they need to do is bring on the food aid, and the starving North Koreans will desert in droves.

8 Ethiopia
9 Venezuela
--------------------------------
Ethiopia, is fresh off a huge victory in Somalia, and has "uncle mo'" on their side, but Coach Chavez has managed to build up some good stockpiles of technologically advanced ordinance over the season, including some very key offseason trades with China, Russia, and Brazil. I pick Venezuela to pull of the upset.

He responded that the NYPD had deemed the security detail necessary because of threats against him and his loved ones, including Nathan.

White House press secretary admits she didn't know what Cuban Missile Crisis was
"Appearing on National Public Radio's quiz show, 'Wait, Wait ... Don't Tell Me,' this weekend, Perino admitted a story she'd previously only shared in private: When a reporter asked her a question during a White House briefing in which he referred to the Cuban Missile Crisis -- she didn't know what it was.

'I was panicked a bit because I really don't know about . . . the Cuban Missile Crisis,' said Perino, who at 35 was born about a decade after the 1962 U.S.-Soviet nuclear showdown. 'It had to do with Cuba and missiles, I'm pretty sure.'

Dear Dana,

Once upon a time there was a leisurely little fishing trip which set sail on a three hour tour. The passengers; Mega , Mata Hari, Julius and Ethel, Aldrich Ames and, Klaus Fuchs were all equipped with the latest Zebcos AND the latest listening devices. They also stowed thousands of teeny tiny microphones in their life jackets...Every fish they caught had a teeny tiny microphone shoved down its throat before it was released. (Because, of course, they were responsible catch and release type fishermen/women.)
The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed. Because of the incompetence of the fearful crew the tiny ship was lost. However, the mic-ed stomachs of all those fish are still feeding valuable information to the CIA. As they swim from sea to shining sea they intercept millions of secret messages.
Perhaps you hear that "blub, blub, liberals' fault, blub, Democrats did it, blub, Clinton had sex, blub, blub" sometimes in YOUR earpiece.

Michael Rubin: "An apology owed to John Bolton". Too funny.
"The most recent Iran NIE confirms that Iran was actively pursuing a nuclear weapon back in 2003. Forgotten in much of the recent press coverage is that this proves John Bolton, at the time was undersecretary of state for Arms Control, correct. Many of the people under and around him, perhaps fearing that his analysis might get in the way of their initiatives, attacked him and leaked anonymously in the press to undermine him. And yet, now we know that Bolton was right. It seems that a number of journalists, diplomats, and Senate staffers owe Mr. Bolton an acknowledgment, if not an apology..."

"A Christian biologist is suing the prestigious Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts, claiming he was fired for refusing to accept evolution, lawyers involved in the case said on Friday.

The latest U.S. academic spat over science and religion was first reported in The Boston Globe newspaper on Friday. Gibbs Law Firm in Florida, which is representing Abraham, said he was seeking $500,000 in compensation..."

"Er. Yeah. Five basic elements -- the vertices of the pentagram. A lot of ancient philosophies believe that to be true, and I'm convinced they are correct. And, as such, it means that you're, well, a non-believing infidel."

"Okay, now you're making me concerned. You think that I'm an infidel and that you can no longer be a chemist because of some Greek writings from more than 2000 years ago."

"Oh. So the world is flat? Ok."

"Dear, God. Just stop this and get back to work."

That's A Moray, aka The Three Cheesy Tenors
:eyes:  So....I went to the school holiday party last night. It was held at the country club (not my style, but I needed to go since I'm new), and the food was mediocre. The alcohol flowed freely (I had just one glass of wine since I had to work today), and faculty and staff were getting extremely drunk. It was loud and hot in the room, and when the Three Cheesy Tenors (my term for them) started their "comedy" act, it was just too much. I'm not an opera fan, but when these particular guys started their opera routine (if you can call it that), it stabbed my brain. The way they sang "That's Amore" sounded more like they were singing love songs to eels. x( Thankfully, the routine only lasted about ten minutes, 'cause I was getting ready to leave if it went further than that. However.....the drunk folks started dancing to the band there, and they all started doing the Electric Slide. :puke: When I saw that, I thought of the immortal words of Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack: "Dance of the Living Dead!"

:spray:  I left at 9 PM, but the party was still going strong. There are tons of empty parking spaces this morning, so I know many of the partiers called in "sick" this morning. :P

Remind me not to do that again.

Ford continued to show support for the homosexual agenda, running a full page ad in the Dec. 07 - Jan. 08 homosexual publication OUT! The ad, for Ford's Volvo brand, was adjacent to a photo of three men taking a shower together. To see the ad and the shower photo, click here. (Warning! Chocolate rations will be raised from 4oz to 2oz ASAP. Gwen Awful did her dutiful part as well.

Put the kids to bed knowing her great leadership is in control, if only they weren't so frustrated with the minority giving them a hard time all would be well.

Welcome to the jungle it gets worse here every day.

You are all part of what makes DU the best forum/message board on the 'net today. With all the crazy stuff going on these days, it sometimes feels like the world is crushing you... then someone will come out with a comment out of nowhere that'll make you laugh til ya cry and you forget all the BS, even if for a brief few moments. I think it helps remind us that we're all dealing with other human beings here, not some faceless, nameless, emotionless robot at the other end of the screen & keyboard....

50. I'm guessing what we have here is a case of childhood trauma involving a garden sculpture that not
only left the poor victim's psyche scarred for life, but also resulted in a tragic funny-bone-ectomy, thus leaving the victim forever humor impaired.

On the bright side, however, we have an early participant in Kurovski's project of stopping the funny so that you can take a break for Christmas.

60. Oh, my.
Well, I will tell you this: one's height has no correlation to one's qualification for being president of the United States.

However, it can make you the target of juvenile humor.

Sometimes, however, it is more complicated than that. Sometimes people pick up on some extreme silliness happening somewhere (e.g., DU), and hit the trifecta. You know, make fun of three groups of people all at the same time. In this case, the primary target was the explosion of polls at DU (I explained this to you). I also was targeting those who were attacking candidates for trivial reasons (something that supposedly happened in kindergarten, the way somebody laughs, the cost of a haircut, etc). Last but not least I was targeting people who are extremely sensitive about their candidates. You know the type -- people who shit themselves when these trivial attributes are even mentioned.

It's been explained to you now in excrutiating detail. Any remaining sensitivities are YOUR problem.

If you and the offended handful who posted in the original thread couldn't get the thread locked, what's the big deal here? JeffR follows the rules about locked threads. If it were locked, it wouldn't be here.

You yourself seem to have trouble following the rules via your broad swipes at DUers.

May self-approved mirth and boners ever be yours. --K
