1. if maybe they were pointing out the failures I could go there
if they were actively trying to oust someone then that is a whole 'nuther deal, I'll not go there.

3. If I was American, I'd worry about it
In the UK, the Prime Minister is in some sense the President and Senate Majority Leader rolled into one; and I think one of the advantages of the American system is keeping the roles separate; so that Congressional leaders are, at least in theory, independent of the President.

Has Bush been trying to do this, then?

7. Actually a bit of a copycat post. In that one, the current speaker and majority leader were named.
I just thought it should be discussed in a broader way. You probably know more about how our separation of powers clause than many native US citizens. My husband from India wows people with his knowledge of it.

4. Seems like a bad precedent to me - subject to personal whims
On the other hand if any of our current crop of candidates could get rid of the invertebrate "leadership" in the house and senate, they'd go way up in my estimation.

In other words I feel very strongly both ways.

5. To me it would be an act of great courage and a reason to vote for him or her.

11. In that case I would be on the side of the speaker since they would actually be standing up to the
tyrannical leadership of the president. in the case of pelosi and the other democratic leaders they ain't doing a damn thing to stand up against tyranny at home so I think they should be out of here. so I would change my answer to depending on the reason. if they are being threatened because they are trying to stop tyranny at home then I would support them if they are becoming tyrants or supporting the tyrants in power then they should be removed.

8. Note the lack of any personal names.
I'm trying to divorce the disgust with the current legislative leadership from the question. If we do it now, we've set a precedent for another Bushlike administration.

9. Damn it...it is not up to the president to tell congress who they
elect to lead the house and senate. Do you want to have another person wanted to be a dictator. I don't care who she/he is they HAVE NO RIGHT.
