"Don’t Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"

Don't most people believe that Huckabee is Goober Pyle's cousin? I sure do after hearing about that stupid question.

1. So it's not true then..
There actually are a couple stupid questions.

Ahhh,, how the world laughs at our hypocracy of trying to take religion out of foreign governments, while at the same time we try to shove religion down the throat our own goverment.

2. I'm less concerned about Mormon underwear and Devil/Jesus relations
than I am about someone who thinks the Colorado River carved out the Grand Canyon in 6000 years and thinks opposable thumbs are a spontaneous miracle from God.

5. Actually, creationists don't think that Colorado river carved out the Grand Canyon at all:
they think a prehistoric fresh water lake broke through a natural earthen dam. The resulting torrent of water then carved out the Canyon in a few weeks. Colorado River then just settled there. There is geological evidence for this large lake just east of the Canyon. I think they are right in this case. Huckster is still crazy though.

7. They can't be right
They believe all the rock that makes the canyon walls was not up lifted (despite geological evidence that a lot of it was laid down below sea level) slowly over time. They believe it was a big stack of mud left over from the great flood. The flood waters then carved the grand canyon in weeks before the mud harden. Here is the thing. Ignoring all the fossil evidence about how long it took the sedimentary rock that forms the wall need to be made, mud simply doesn't have the strength to stack that high. Do it at home. Try stacking an earthen dam at the wall slopes of the Grand Canyon and see how close to 1 mile you get before it loses its structural integrity. The other problem with your theory is the canyon clearly shows signs have been formed over a long period of time. Volcanic eruptions have periodically blocked up the canyon. These fresh igneous intrusion and the river erosion of them leave good evidence of the canyon formation rate.

10. Here is how I see it:
The canyon formation has nothing to do with the so-called Noah's flood. The geological layers were deposited over a long time. One sunny day, a farly small dam broke at the eastern end of to-day canyon. The dam's height is unrelated to the depth of the canyon. Through this small opening a godzillion cubic miles of water poured out at a speed corresponding to the height of the water level. This could have the same effect as a garden hose when it's laid flat on top of some sand or gravel surface. Pretty soon the flow from that garden hose will carve out a small canyon. Now this prehistoric lake which existed (fresh-water fossils found in the desert), could have enough water to make a canyon in a few weeks rather than millions of years. I don't know about igneous intrusions but could they have been made before the waters broke? I don't know.

11. Noah's flood is believed to be a local occurance in the
Black Sea region. Nat Geo has the story:

15. That's true. But some fundies think that the flood's "receding waters" carved the Canyon.
That of course is bullshit. A local flash flood from a huge freshwater lake is much more credible IMO than millions of years of slow erosion by Colorado river. Especially since something similar (lake, dam broke, huge erosion formations) happened elsewhere in the West (can't remember the name of the lake or place).

6. It would be a stupid question if
religion was off the table. But Mitt told us last week religion wasn't just a private affair. He told Americans to make religion a public affair and Huckabee is just following instructions. I say let the pointless babble begin. It's their party and if that's what they want to talk about it should be a fun 2008 Republican race.

12. no offense...but Mormons have had reason to be asked that question...
<snip>

In the Discourses of Brigham Young, on Pg.53-54 he lets it be known that Lucifer is the second son, the one known as "Son of the Morning."

"Who will redeem the earth, who will go forth and make the sacrifice for the earth and all things it contains?" The Eldest Son said: "Here am I"; and then he added, "Send me." But the second one, which was "Lucifer, Son of the Morning," said, "Lord, here am I, send me, I will redeem every son and daughter of Adam and Eve that lives on the earth, or that ever goes on the earth."

</snip>

A second son would be considered a brother...no?

Look, I don't care for the man either...but his question would be considered valid...so why attack it as stupid?
