Jeanne Assam Press Conference
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/14817480/detail.html
She lays on the God part too thick but, otherwise, this woman was very heroic.
Although it has been determined(after this interwiew) the gunman took his own life - she was very brave and took him down which facilitated his inevitable suicide and cut his killing spree short

3. Nothing Heroic
There is nothing 'heroic' in any of what happened here in Colorado.

It is a tragedy from start to finish.

What is the psychology behind this insistence upon trying to find a 'hero' for everything bad that happens? Is it a desire to believe that somehow or another there will always be someone showing up to save us?

Or is the wish for a hero a way to tuck away the uncomfortable and ugly consequences of horrible events so that we don't have to deal with them forthrightly and honestly?

5. What happened there is the definition of heroic
A person put her health and safety on the line to stop someone from killing more people.

Why such animosity towards this woman. She did the right thing and people are alive because she didn't run away.

I have to really wonder about those of you who keep tearing her down. I have to really wonder if you would have preferred to see more Christians die, just because you don't like their fundy ways.

10. I'm convinced that if this had been a mosque being shot up by a white supremacist

and a worshipper/security guard took down the shooter you wouldn't have the reactions on DU you have in this case.

After reading way too many of these threads I have to side with you. Sadly, it looks like some people here would have been more than happy to see this shooter carry out his rampage a little bit longer. There's absolutely no other way to explain the hositility that seems to be directed to the person most responsible for ending this tragedy.

4. That article sums up alot...
1. The "security guards" aren't paid, they're volunteers.
2. They don't all carry weapons, only those who are certified do.
3. They had extra security that day because of prior shootings.

This situation could have been much worse with 7,000 people present that day...

11. The Symptoms Are Fully Ignored...
While I'm sure this lady heard a lot of voices in her head while all hell was breaking loose around her, it was her training in use of the weapon that was the ultimate voice. She reacted as she was trained and probably kept this shooting from getting worse. I sorta look at it like the athlete who thanks jeebus for the touchdown...as they need this re-inforcement for their own being. Yes it's odd to many here, but I would hope that folks can nuance this situation a bit...we know the corporate media won't.

My questions are about what appears to be a growing violent streak...an alienation in many religious circles. Unfortunately, when you examine a good number of these shootings, there's a religious underpinning to them. Usually tied in with some form of alienation that ties into some violent outburst. Call it domestic violence in a very large household.
