Lights Out America: Turning Off Lights Nationwide to Save Energy on March 29, 2008!
I just found this website tonight, so we still have time to spread the word about this event.

Everything you could want or need to know about this event is at the website linked below, Check it out and give this thread a kick (or a K&R) even if you don't have any comments to add:

What Will 1 Night, 1 Hour & 1 Bulb Do?

You may ask: what good does one hour and one light bulb do? What do we hope to accomplish?

Today, the United States consumes more energy and emits more greenhouse gases than any other country in the world. Our nation’s growing appetite for energy must be controlled to protect our planet from the effects of the climate crisis.

1. All of my light bulbs are CFs
which makes a huge difference. And with the variety of CFs now available, there's no excuse not to change.

2. Most of mine are too, the ones that aren't, I don't use very much.
The only thing that pisses me off a little is that Wal-Mart and Home Depot etc. are selling the CFBs more and more cheaply now, but they don't seem to ever have a box or bin for the CFB that need to be recycled! WTF? :wtf:

I've gone though almost a half dozen CFBs, so far, and have had a LOT of trouble finding places to recycle them.

4. NO, that's one of the FAQ questions at the second link...
Q: Will all America lighting, even streetlights and hospitals, go dark? What about emergency power?

A: Lights Out America is not asking to turn-off streetlights or any power necessary to keeping the nation and its residents safe. We encourage people to switch off only non-essential lighting — such as lights in houses, porches, office buildings, and the like. By turning off all non-essential lighting, we save energy and hopefully show how easy it is to fight climate change if we work together.

8. Why wait until March 2008?
Why don't they just encourage everyone to start doing this today?

9. They are, but this an event. Events get coverage from the so-called MSM, everyday advice don't.
My Electrical Co-Op recommends this sort of thing everyday, but they don't get any mention on the evening "news" for it, hopefully, this event will.

Plus, something like this needs planning and coordination to carry out, this event is still in the planning stage.
