The CNN Poll on waterboarding is still
54%-Yes
46%-NO

I'm ashamed to be an American today. Have any of the "yeas" thought that their attitude MIGHT have contributed to the slaughter of 3,000 innocents on 9/11?

5. I posted this many months ago.
Millions of Americans are in favor of the Torture of "Terrorists" to garner info from them that will protect America.

In their minds anyone that is captured by America is guilty & an enemy of America.
It is acceptable to torture anyone that is deemed a Terrorist enemy of America.
They presume that any Americans that are captured by the enemy of America will
be tortured then killed, so the concept that America tortures isn't relevant &
shouldn't be a prohibition.

Millions also believe that spying by the Govt. without warrants is alright
because the Govt. is protecting America against Terrorists.

6. All the more reason that we need to show people that torture doesn't work
Edited on Wed Dec-12-07 04:25 AM by Hippo_Tron
The yeas don't think in your terms and that's precisely the problem. They think of a so-called ticking time bomb scenario and say to themselves well "If it's between waterboarding a guy and another 9/11 I guess waterboarding is better."

We need to show people that torture isn't an effective means of gathering information, only an effective means of gathering confession. We also need to show that it reduces our credibility in international relations and surrenders any moral leverage that we might have in getting other countries to stop their human rights abuses.

7. I am starting to believe that Torture isn't mainly for garnering info.
I suspect that it is a method to terrorize the populations of countries
that the US Govt. wants to dominate on the behalf of the US Multi-Corps.

While repeating, "We don't torture." Busholini isn't fooling most other countries, perhaps
only the gullible in America.

8. You'd think a practical argument could reach those people...
...on whom moral arguments are lost. But no, the macho swagger of the torture advocates feels too good, I guess.
