It was seven years ago today...
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 07:49 PM by Patsy Stone
That a case was argued in front of the Supreme Court of the United States. To me, it feels like a lifetime.

http://www.oyez.org/cases/2000-2009/2000/2000_00_949/

On December 12th, a decision would come down which would challenge the country's long held ideas of what it means to be elected President and have every vote counted.

Next year at this time we will (hopefully) have a new, truly elected, president. I don't know about you, but I'm having trouble waiting.

1. Yep, and Dec. 12 is Mr. JaneAustin's birthday.
They put a pall on that date forever for me, and then Bush moves into Iraq on my son's birthday in March.

Grrrrrrr . . . .

2. Sorry.
My aunt's birthday is September 11. :(

Please wish him a Happy Birthday for me anyway, 'k?

I feel terrible for people whose birthdays are Sept 11.

3. K&R.
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 08:31 PM by Kurovski
The weeks before the tragic (and IMO, worthy of judicial impeachment) decision were a waking nightmare.

7. I wondered where it went.
2004 was just as bad. Maybe worse, since it was the second punch, which hit the still tender areas again.

9. I ate all the leftover Halloween candy in one sitting.
But I was pissed, and was even more pissed at the assholes dive-bombing onto DUers who "dared" to say that the damn thing was obviously stolen.

Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 08:29 PM by Breeze54
That was one of the most unpleasant days that I can remember in recent history and there have been to many like it since. :(

Better days are in front of us. Keep on truckin'!

10. I can see the end of it.
It's in focus, and it's no longer years and years away.

15. The end of the Bush Administration.
There will be a new group of people in there; and whoever they are, they won't be these people.

I don't believe anyone who occupies that office could ever be worse for, or do more harm to, America and we, her people, as these criminals have.

There was a time, not so long ago, when I woke up and my first instinct wasn't to turn on the news to see if we'd started a world war, or if any of my rights had been taken away, while I was asleep. One day, not too long from now, I hope to do that again.

16. 2006
The fact that people showed up to vote, and more votes were counted. In addition, Florida, FWIW, has a paper trail and no more touchscreens. So, those two things are adding to my positivity.

I misunderstood your question before, sorry.

21. For one thing, election reform activists have been working hard
and have made some real gains. Election protection infrastructure, outing the fraud on electronic voting machines, and exposing voter suppression. It's not a done deal but we're miles ahead of where we were in 2000.

Let's hope his DU lurker producers read this and bring it up tonight. :hi: Olbermann producers!

sure came to an ugly end.

But damn it, we're going to get through this.

I'm grateful to have found people I can laugh my way through the madness with.

28. Amid all the "Can you top this?" persecution wars currently chic on DU, this is a very timely
reminder of who is the real enemy.

Sadly, it may take decades or more to recover from that fateful day. As I mentioned a few days ago, it's a good year to stay under the covers...
