"Traditional Marriage" -- I've had three, and three divorces
So traditonal marriages don't mean squat to me. People should be able to do whatever they want, with whoever they want, as long as every one is happy. This traditional marriage thing is going to paint itself into a corner. Liberals look to the future, to new ideas and new ways. Liberalism is open, like love. Conservatism looks to the past, to the old ideas, and is closed, like hate.

5. That's a fuckin fact
You think we'd be given a break for upholding such "traditional" values (even though we did get married in a joint state/pagan handfasting ceremony). I'll still keep her though as long as she keeps my broken penniless ass.B-)

10. I am married to one woman and living with another (in another state).
So I am double-fucked, tax-wise.

See my reply downthread.

2. But what if I want a traditional marriage?
Shouldn't I be able to go to a church or city government of my choice and marry the person I chose to marry?

Just because it did not work for you does not mean it would not work for me - me being a gay man that wants the traditional wedding with all the fixings:)

7. Free State: my point is that what Huckabee and Romney defend
as Traditional Marriage (ie, between a man and a woman) is BS. You should be able to marry the partner of your choice in any state and wear white if you want!

14. Got it...
Thought you were implying we should look beyond marriage for everyone - I favor a system that lets all couples define their relationships how ever they personally want to.

BTW I don't think there is any such thing as "traditional marriage" as in an institution - that changes every 50 to a 100 years or so...

9. Ab so fuckin' lutely!
It should be a grand get together, and include everything you want it to include.. and none of the stuff that you don't.

Everyone you want there should be there and it should be a happy joyful day.

4. I believe any two consenting adults should be allowed to marry.
But then I grew up when interfaith marriage was going to be the end of the world, and then it wasn't. So the next boogeyman was interracial marriage and again it wasn't "the end of the world as we know it" either.

Same sex marriage will strengthen society not weaken it.

6. To each his own
I have no problem with anyone wanting to remain single.

I have no problem, really, with the way anyone wants to live,
as long as I'm in no way forced to imitate it.

I happen to have a "traditional" marriage because I lucked out
and found a woman I want to stay with forever, but I'm not so blind
as to think this works for everyone, or is even desired by everyone.

Whatever our children want to do is fine with us, and we put no pressure
on them to follow our example. Different strokes really ARE for different
folks, and as long as no one is forcing anyone else to play by their rules,
it's no skin off of my back.

But I am living with a Crazy Woman in California.

So am I going to Hell or what?

12. The Crazy Woman knows...
the Mind of God (or at least she says she does).

Yeah, you're right, annabanana. I am probably on about ten direct, disparate paths to Hades.

But I sure had a whole lotta fun trying to find those paths.

And I would do it again tomorrow, given the opportunity.
