CNN: 'Bullet magnet' fears for Harry

Looks like the criminal overlords of war are about to sacrifice a member of the royal family. I admire Prince Harry for his loyalty to his troops, but his moniker "Troop Commander Wales" and the fact that he's being called a "bullet magnet" by members of his regiment means that he hasn't thought this through and is probably putting his troop in harms way.

LONDON, England (CNN) -- The British police protection officer responsible for Prince Harry has flown to Iraq to begin making security arrangements for the royal soldier's deployment to Iraq amid fears for his safety, according to British press reports.

The Daily Mail newspaper claimed the prince is already referred to as a "bullet magnet" by fellow soldiers as his Blues and Royals regiment prepares for an anticipated six-month tour of Iraq.

7. IIRC, it is tradition that some or all of the royal offspring do his duty

by taking a turn in the military. It is also tradition that heirs not be saved from a war that happened to be going on at the time. They are expected to do just what any regular soldier would do.

This is, as you can see, in direct contrast to what the royalty over here expects.

That said, I have no idea what protections would be in place for Harry as he patrols, etc. None, or a lot, I don't know.

The regular guy doesn't get advance preps:

He will not be in "harm's way", imo, a lot like General Eisenhower's son wasn't during the Korean "War". All semantics.

...and not only served, but served with distinction, honor and gallantry above the call of duty. Here's his Medal of Honor citation:

For gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty on 6 June 1944, in France. After 2 verbal requests to accompany the leading assault elements in the Normandy invasion had been denied, Brig. Gen. Roosevelt's written request for this mission was approved and he landed with the first wave of the forces assaulting the enemy-held beaches. He repeatedly led groups from the beach, over the seawall and established them inland. His valor, courage, and presence in the very front of the attack and his complete unconcern at being under heavy fire inspired the troops to heights of enthusiasm and self-sacrifice. Although the enemy had the beach under constant direct fire, Brig. Gen. Roosevelt moved from one locality to another, rallying men around him, directed and personally led them against the enemy. Under his seasoned, precise, calm, and unfaltering leadership, assault troops reduced beach strong points and rapidly moved inland with minimum casualties. He thus contributed substantially to the successful establishment of the beachhead in France.

recapitulation of World War I which started with the assassination of Archduke Franz Joseph, the heir to the AustrioHungarian Empire. The motivation was independence of Bosnia from the Empire and the rationale for the war by its end had very little in resemblance to its instigation.

So you take a third-in-line, expose him to unreasonable risk of death, the death occurs, and you have a nation mobilized for revenge and war.
