It would be more surprising if BushCo WASN'T illegally monitoring Democrats than if they were. It would be great to see Congressional hearings about this very subject.

1. Everyone organizing against US military policy is a target of surveillance.
It doesn't matter if you are a bunch of folks meeting every Friday night on a street corner or the Democratic Party. By definition these groups are organized opposition to US policy and Cheenee and his brave intelligence network is interested.

2. Well they're getting an earful then
The comforting thing is that they couldn't possibly jail 70% of the country, which is about the number who disapprove of Bush.

4. Disposable cell phones
That's about the only option I can see for truly non-traceable calling.

Everything else - land lines, regular billed cell phones, IP phones, email, IMs, snail mail, smoke signals, etc. are all monitored or have the capability to be monitored.

5. You mean like warrantless wiretapping and email reading?
I think many are being eavesdropped upon.

6. They consider it a fact of life.

I would not be surprised to learn that during the Anthrax scare in 2001 when Congressional office buildings were vacated, the entire complex was bugged. The administration also scrutinizes congressional meetings with constituents, something they are very concerned about, all under the guise of security.

My own personal experience is that we can turn government surveillance into a megaphone. Why should we fear that we are being listened to when for decades the fear was that we were not?
