Grandmother arrested for carrying weapons into Disney World

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 63-year old Pennsylvania grandmother is out of jail Monday after deputies arrested her Sunday for trying to enter Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom with a loaded handgun, knife and scissors.

Orange County Jail records show that Mary Ann Richardson, of Nickelson, Pa., posted a $2,000 bail early Monday after deputies charged her with carrying a concealed weapon inside the theme park with her grandchildren...

Disney officials found the weapon during a routine safety check. Richardson told investigators that she traveled with the silver Beretta .32-caliber semiautomatic handgun and had forgotten she was carrying it. The gun was loaded with seven live rounds in the magazine, but the chamber was empty.

"I live alone where I'm at," Richardson said in a television interview. "Keeping the pistol available is important to me."

Deputies said they also found a pair of scissors and a locked-blade knife in the woman's purse.

4. You would find exactly the same things in my wifes purse right this moment
Her pistol (Beretta 9mm), her folding knife, and in all likelihood some sort of small nail scissors. She would be legal to carry it in the state of Florida too by the way.

on the "People Mover" (ride at D-land) all summer long, and never got caught. That was late 70's.

20. It is my understanding that it was against the law to NOT smoke on the people mover
during the 70's. Had a friend that used to smoke with his buds on the chair lift-type ride..the gondola cars? maybe? at Disneyland when he was growing up in SoCal.

He told me he swiped jewels from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride also. I later learned through personal experience that you cant trust what a pot smoker says. I used to exaggerate all the time!

26. Somethig like that
The "Mover" was impossible to monitor so it was pretty much the safe haven at Mickey's place, back in the day before bag searches.I never stole anything but we did drop coins down to the kids walking around under us. Made their day.

23. Is that the one on the wire?
Kinda like a ski lift or mini gondola. That's the real reason to ride them.

reason to ride the People Mover.

Yep, it's the gondola on the wire that goes nowhere, slowly.

16. If grandma forgot she had a loaded firearm on her, that can't be a good thing.
What is a routine safety check?

I'm assuming she didn't actually enter the park, so the routine safety check was likely located at the front gate.

If she saw them checking for shit at the gate, she should have made a U-turn.

Of course, she forgot she was carrying a loaded firearm, hence no U-turn.

17. Yes, they check bags before you enter the park
I was at Disney World in October.

Ironically, if she would have carried the handgun on her person, as opposed to in a bag, they would have never known. They just glance in backpacks/purses... it's more for show than anything.

37. A friend of mine was banned for life from Magic Mountain in Los Angeles
He was 12 and off his medication for ADHD. He got scared when a Captain Hook character approached him (my friend is deathly afraid of clowns), and kicked the man in the nuts.

Was it that she was CCW illegally or that she was carrying in a Disnery specified no-gun zone?

36. As long as they check thouroughly that EVERYONE doesn't bring in weapons,
I don't have a problem with that. It's their property, and their rules. But if security is lax in allowing some people to bring weapons, that's not good. People without a weapon are then at the mercy of security personnel to act appropriately. Or a ninja Mickey.
