However, if you don't buy that strawman, then DU has a long way to go before it gets anywhere near the "Hitlery has fat ankles" crowd.

I've seen a lot of criticism of candidate positions on DU and it should be here. I've seen a lot of overreaction to that criticism. I've seen very little bashing and have alerted on what I've seen.

Perhaps the OP might find it instructive to define "bashing" for the rest of us.

Constructive criticism:

"I'm going to call my representative, and give them a piece of my mind."

21. I sometimes feel betrayed by Democrats in addition to Republicans

What's wrong with expressing anger? Impatience? Disappointment? Feelings of hopelessness? Any kind of negative feeling related to political events?... nothing, as long as it does not break DU rules.

DUers have the right to express those and other feelings, regardless of a need or desire for "constructive criticism." One does not preclude the other.

Also, some of us have family members serving in combat zones, or have experienced some natural or man-made disaster, and we just sometimes need a place to pen our frustrations.

Dissent, criticism, and disagreement are not "bashing." Those things are based on an individual's poor words, poor record, poor actions, or poor stance on issues, not on their political affiliation.

All here except the trolls want Dem victory, but bashing the DLC, for instance, is fully justified given their behavior. If Pelosi hadn't taken the big I off the table she would be far less worthy of a good bashing. If Feinstein hadn't voted for Mukasey she would far less worthy of a good bashing. They get what they deserve. If less bashing is what they want then they should change their behavior. Bashing isn't a sport, it's a valid way to register discontent.
