Name the person who should take her place, and then tell us what happens next (in detail)!

3. LOL - that's a good joke
The House members would never vote him for leader, but it's a fun thought.

9. Actually, its not...
Occasionally you need to think about the unpleasant necessities of politics. The job of Speaker of the House is to get things accomplished e.g. getting people to vote for specific things, and negotiating between the different ideologies and political cliques. However strongly you may support Kucinich's positions, does anything in his political history show that he can bring significant numbers of other people to his point of view?

32. That's The Majority Leader's Job
The Speaker's job has traditionally been mostly non-partisan...they're the "CEO" of the House...technically voted by all the members and representing the entire body. Since Democrats control the majority, their "leader" is the speaker and its her job to keep the House operating.

What yur're describing is the job of the Majority Leader...Hoyer...who I've long pointed out has been the problem, not Pelosi. If Hoyer wants the votes, he twists the arms (along with Emanuel as his whip) or if he wants to stonewall something, that is word, too.

31. The original OP
asked who would take her place. I offered up Kucinich. I didn't say anything about what is LIKELY to happen. If Pelosi stepped down, what would LIKELY happen is they place another corporate DLC-lackey in her place. There are plenty from which to choose.

So what happens next?

Where the hell is she? Where the hell is she on the NIE and the atrocious inability of the administration to defend it?

Where the hell is she on Scott McClellan's admission that Bush and Cheney authorized him to lie about Plame and Rove???

It's like they've gone into hibernation.

Do something! Say something!

16. The Democrats have taken the position that they will do nothing until there is a new President
The attitude goes well beyond Pelosi. If you're looking for a Sam Rayburn to rise up it simply ain't happening. The Congressional Democrats have decided that they want to leave the tough choices for the next President.

18. She shouldn't step down
she should step up. Pelosi could press much further for Buchco accountability and still bring the caucus along. If she's going to be forced out she should make the Blue Dogs to it - not the left. Instead she panders to the right-wing of the Party and pisses on her base. Weird.

20. Are we to believe Bushco lies to the world and the courts, to everyone and anyone, except the Dems??
Let me see is this sums it up. Are we to believe Bushco lies to the world and the courts, to everyone and anyone, and even jeopardizing terror convictions by obstruction, and then marches over to the Hill like a 10-year-old Catholic, and confesses its war crimes to the Dems? Yeah, that's rich!!

33. Well, after the massive party winds down...
It might be time to look at an actual Democrat for a change. How about starting with the list of HR 333 co-signers (along with DK himself):

* Rep. Tammy Baldwin
* Rep. Robert Brady
* Rep. Yvette Clarke
* Rep. William Clay
* Rep. Steve Cohen
* Rep. Davis, Danny K.
* Rep. Keith Ellison
* Rep. Sam Farr
* Rep. Bob Filner
* Rep Grijalva, Raul M.
* Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee
* Rep. Henry Johnson
* Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick
* Rep. Dennis Kucinich
* Rep. Barbara Lee
* Rep. James McDermott
* Rep. James Moran
* Rep. Donald Payne
* Rep. Janice Schakowsky
* Rep. Edolphus Towns
* Rep. Maxine Waters
* Rep. Diane Watson
* Rep. Lynn Woolsey
* Rep. Albert Wynn

Maybe they don't stand much of a chance of getting elected speaker, but then I didn't think Bush stood much of a chance of NOT getting impeached once the Dems took over the House.

Buh bye, Ms. Nancy. Don't let the door hit you in your ineffectual ass on the way out.

37. Kucinich being the sole exception...
Edited on Mon Dec-10-07 11:25 PM by warren pease
Frankly, that one mystifies me. Take a guy like John Lewis. Leader of SNCC back in the '60s, Vietnam war and civil rights protester, almost killed by a cop's truncheon on the march from Selma to Montgomery, champion of Constitutional rights throughout his time in the House. What in hell is he doing voting for this piece of shit?

Barbara Lee? The only member of the house to vote against the patriot act. Lynn Woolsey? One of the most tireless Bush enemies in American politics. Maxine Waters? Another constant thorn in BushCo's side.

What the hell were these people thinking?

I've been trying to suss that one out for weeks now and have yet to find a satisfactory answer.

I mean, I can understand Harman introducing it, DLC swine that she is. But how it attracted the support of people who should damn well know better is beyond me.

Still, I'd take anybody on that list before Hoyer or Emmanuel -- both of whom also voted for HR 1955, btw -- or any other DLC android you could name.

39. No way dude, that's not what's going to happen at all!!
Now, after the monkeys fly out of my butt, we're going to ride witches brooms to my old neighborhood where I was digging a hole to China when I was about 3 years old. We stop in hell, halfway to China, where I teach the monkeys to ice-skate. We have a pick-up hockey game with Satan himself and his devils, after which we have a good long laugh over free hot chocolate. Then, Satan, the monkeys and I go to China, where we meet their industrial leaders. They beg us to open factories for their companies in the US, because the Chinese workers are too high paid, and they can manufacture goods more cheaply at US based union run shops. Peace reigns supreme forever (even though monkeys are scary).

Sorry, this is what happens when Pelosi steps down to become president after Bush and Cheney are arrested, right?
