If Gore were to run for president again his time was now
not in the future. He stayed out in '04 and he is apparently staying out in '08--perhaps the most pivotal election we have had in years. He keeps saying he hasn't ruled out a "future run" and that such a run would be for president. I don't know about you but for me a Gore run in 2012 or 2016 wouldn't do it for me. We needed him now--not in some future hypothetical election. We had eight disastrous years of Bush policies and needed somebody like him to clean up the mess especially with regards to Iraq and begin doing something constructive on global warming and a host of other issues. I respect the fact that he is pursuing his global warming issue as a private citizen, but I cannot fathom why he would pass up running this year when not only the United States, but the world, needs a statesman of his calibar and yet say that he hasn't ruled out a future run. For one thing if the Democrats win this time he is out of it at least until 2016 and by then there will be newer blood and Gore will be seen as a product of the past. I think his time was now--if he was to ever run for president again. I wish him luck with his work on Global Warming as a private citizen and congratulate him on his well-deserved Nobel Peace Prize.

1. Its now or never for him and even another month would make him look like Fred Thompson.

3. I think Al has known that
for some time. If he had thrown his hat in the ring the meddling media would already have have ruined it for him. I watched him make his speech this a.m. on the Nobel prize. It was truly a great speech. I watched on CNN. After it was over John Roberts (whom I used to like on CBS) had to make a nasty remark about his big home in Nashville. He doesn't know a thing about it. He just follows the neocon rules about throwing dirt and whatever else is around at the good guys. The only truth we get these days is from Keith Olbermann and very few others. Al Gore is so much better than a one-liner would-be pundit/journalist on CNN.

2. Yeah, this was his time, but I just honestly think
what happened to him in 2000 devastated him completely, and he says he hasn't closed the door, but he really did long ago, I think. It's too bad, because he would have trounced anyone else.

5. He was too scared
He didn't want to face the current decrepit level of dirty politics. Can't say I blame him, but I never wanted to be in politics in the first place. He did. Sure, politics are toxic today. Horribly so. So go run and hide, Al. See ya. Gore never really did fight back very well. He had so many opportunities to KO Bush in the debates in 2000 and let so much slide. Perhaps it's best that he stay out. He's not really a fighter, and we need someone who can fight back and put the insane, thuggish right in their place. I don't think Al has what it takes.

I still think, however, that he owed it to all of his supporters to make that "Sherman statement" for '08 and not leave everyone just hanging and wondering. So many people stayed with him and created websites and ballot pushes and all sorts of other things to support him. And it just slowly dissolves away.

If you want to get into policy, Al still has a lot of explaining to do re NAFTA and the Telecommunications Act of 1996, both of which he now criticizes but ardently supported at the time.

Can you tell I am bitter at the current state of politics in this country? If our "leaders" are not going to fight, why should I? Fuck it.
