Pelosi's Choice of Hoyer Over Murtha
I could not understand why Pelosi chose Hoyer over Murtha when she assumed her position after the '06 elections. Does anyone else think that this has something to do with the CIA tapes? I cannot see Murtha keeping silent about this issue. Perhaps Pelosi's felt it was safer to have Hoyer by her side than Murtha.

1. I thought she backed Murtha?
Mr. Murtha is a close ally of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who will become the first female speaker of the House.

Ms. Pelosi yesterday released a letter of support for Mr. Murtha to be majority leader.

"Your presence in the leadership of our party would add a knowledgeable and respected voice to our Democratic team," Ms. Pelosi wrote.

Voters in Tuesday's midterm elections overwhelmingly cited continuing bloodshed in Iraq as one of their main concerns, and Mr. Murtha, 74, views the results as a vindication of his stance on the war. He easily defeated his opponent, Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey, to capture a 17th term, despite Republican criticisms that he wanted to "cut and run."

8. too bad this was debunked so quick
I'm sure there would have been numerous posts bringing righteous wrath upon Pelosi for supporting Hoyer over Murtha.

Oh well, there probably still will be.

4. She backed Murtha. Hoyer staged an insurrection with Rahm's assistance.
Pelosi tried damn hard to keep Hoyer off her leadership team but he managed to undercut her -- as he and Emmanuel have continued to do time and again.

12. Something about Hoyer has always concerned me... he is 'an old time horse trader deal maker'....
He is very skilled, but very difficult to peg .... and some of his actions have not always been consistent with what we would expect a Democratic leader to do.

13. Hoyer is easy to peg. He's a DLC corporatist. Big media wanted Hoyer and smeared Murtha. (nt)
