3. Well, not as much as he deserved, but more than I expected
Given that he will not be in good playing shape when he gets out, and the fact that he would be publicity poison, one can hope that his career is over, as it should be.

4. He still has state charges to come.
His career is over, I think.

8. Good, even better is if the state charges and federal charges have to be served consecutively
Not concurrently.

Having worked as a vet assistant and the Humane Society, I have absolutely no sympathy for people who fight dogs.

15. LOL, aren't you the clever one, and don't I need more coffee?
How are you doing?

Frankly I think that we should slather Vick with cow blood, and turn him loose in front of a pack of pit bulls, just to see how fast an NFL superstar can run.

17. I'm doing A-ok, man....how 'bout yourself?
Pit bulls scare the bejeezus outta me. Last week, my 3-year old niece mistakenly let her dog outside and then ran out after him to keep him from escaping. The neighbor's pit bull attacked, but my niece's dog (a labrador retreiver) interceded and got royally fucked up. Cost my brother $800 in vet bills...he said that when he was taking the dog to the vet, he could see multiple ribs exposed.

All that being said, there is absolutely no form of life lower than somebody who seeks perverse pleasure in watching animals tear each other to shreds, either as a result of instinct or human-induced behavior.

19. Doing alright, actually have some time off coming up
And will be able to get things done around the farm

I've always loved pits, I find that if they aren't raised to be aggressive and mean, pits are some of the most adorable dogs around. I've had pits or pit mixes all of my adult live, and have never experienced any sort of aggression from them.

It is always key with any dog as to how you raise them. Sorry to hear about your niece's lab, that is truly a shame and your neighbor should pay the vet bills. It is obvious that he's raised his dog to be aggressive.

It really is a shame how a criminal subculture has taken a fine breed and made them pariahs of the dog world. Hell, for years the AKC recommended pits as the best dog for a family. They had to drop that in the face of mounting criticism, but the plain fact is that a pit who isn't raised to be aggressive is a dream of a dog.

21. Yeah, man...I agree with you on that last para.
I am very jealous of you being able to take some time off. I've got something like 2 months of leave banked right now, but I am too busy to take any time. Maybe I'll put in for a couple days around Christmas.

Well, friend...here's to you and yours: :toast: Merry Christmas and we'll see you around DU!

11. Vick was hoping for a year. Judge not impressed. This costs him the 2009 season.
Even if he doesn't get additional state time, he'll have been out of football for three years when he gets out in November 2009. Soonest he can play would be 2010, if anyone would want a mobile quarterback with three years of hard time rust on him.

16. He'll be thirty by then, and I doubt that he'll be able to make it back as a QB
Some team might take a flyer on him as a wide receiver, but I seriously doubt that anybody will want the bad publicity baggage that will come with Vick. I really think that his career is done.

6. I love my dog, I love all dogs, but this doesn't seem right
I don't understand how a society that kills billions of chickens, millions of pigs (which are as smart, sensitive and sociable as dogs) and millions of cows, after forcing them to live under conditions as horrifying as those imposed on Vick's dogs, can sentence this guy to prison.

I hate Vick and what he did, but the hypocrisy stinks to high heaven.

25. I agree
Let's not forget all the Dogs that are killed by lethal injection every year for lack of a home. But remember there is also the specter of illegal gambling that is included in Dog fighting that is not included in the other industries that survive by killing animals. Such gambling and it’s close ties to organize crime are certainly why such activities deserved federal attention.

9. It's close to what was expected.
His co-defendants got 18 and 21 months, it was expected he'd get at least (but not a lot more than) that.

He started serving his sentence early, but it's not believed that it led to any leniency from the judge.

26. Yeah. I Figured 12 to 15 Months
He got about a 3/4 of a year more than i expected.

I heard he was less cooperative with prosecutors than he said he would be. Might be way he got stomped on a bit by the judge.

27. He will not do all 23 months ..... (good chance) .....
.... but these are vicious people who not only hurt pit bulls but
go out and steal pets or get dogs from an animal shelter that
their "pits" can practice on. Odds are very good Vick's criminal
business caused much pain and suffering to many dogs and families.

Screw him .... total punk.
