Huckabee got into politics to bring Jesus Christ into our lives
Huckabee: U.S. gave up on religion
School shootings were wake-up call, he says

excerpts from this article

"I didn't get into politics because I thought government had a better answer. I got into politics because I knew government didn't have the real answers, that the real answers lie in accepting Jesus Christ into our lives."
He compared his entry into politics to "getting inside the dragon's belly," adding, "There's not one thing we can do in those marbled halls and domed capitols that can equal what's done when Jesus touches the lives of a sinner."
The most basic unit of government is not the city council, quorum court or state legislature, Huckabee said. "It is Mom and Dad raising kids and teaching them respect for authority, others and God."
The nation has descended gradually into crisis, Huckabee said, and repairing the damage needs to be gradual, too. He said the solution is simple: faith in Christ.

snip

"I hope we answer the alarm clock and take this nation back for Christ."

I am a Christian, and this is EXACTLY the kind of President we DON'T NEED. There is a big difference between talking about your religion (something I will do when asked) and shoving your religion down everyone's throat.

Huckabee sounds like more of a Pat Robertson/ Jimmy Swaggart/ Ted Haggard type politician than I expected.

2. Huckabee is a fascist and he's as scary as possible.
Have you seen the ad where he is behind the pulpit? He has his arms outstretched and the image is of a crucifix. It's terrifying that any American candidate would think such an image is appropriate to a presidential campaign.

20. Why?
Do you think Americans including Huckabee actually read their bibles?

23. It's not that really. It's more that this man images himself
as a Messiah in that ad. He seems to be quite mad. Between that and his alleged religious extremism, it's scary to know that so many people can possibly support him.

11. Huckabee goes way beyond the other candidates
This sounds like Huckabee would have mandatory Sunday school for all Americans. When has Obama said anything like the quotes above? Talking about Jesus isn't a problem to me, wanting to force Jesus into the lives of others is.

13. I agree--no matter what people say about Romney's speech or Obama's
religious talk (which I don't agree with), Huckabee is the ONLY one who obviously let his religion influence his policies as Governor--that's why he released rapists and murderers from prison, and fought to have creationism taught in schools as an alternate theory, and refused to sign a disaster bill because it contained the phrase "act of God".

Governor Won't Sign an 'Acts of God' Bill

Published: March 21, 1997
The Arkansas Legislature scrambled today to rewrite a bill intended to protect storm victims after Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Baptist minister, objected to language describing such natural phenomena as tornadoes and floods as ''acts of God.''

Mr. Huckabee said that signing the legislation ''would be violating my own conscience'' inasmuch as it described ''a destructive and deadly force as being 'an act of God.' '' The Governor, a Republican, said the legislation was an otherwise worthy bill with objectives he shared.

7. He was a Baptist Preacher - what do people expect?
This guy is the last thing we need in office. Their interpretation of religion is just too fanatical and it is a dangerous thing to have in public office.

12. Why do we even need a government,
when prayer is the answer to everything. Instead of a Commander in Chief, all we need is a Prayer leader in Chief!

18. Those "Christians" Scare Me
as they do most mainstream Christians. I believe in separation of church and state. The bigger the separation the better it is. I don't want the leader of my country chosen by fools that believe religion is the only qualification. I, for one, look forward to the day when religion will not have any part of deciding the qualifications of a person running for office. I don't think I will be alive to see it, but I still hope.

I am a liberal Christian. Sometimes people like me get it from all sides. I get told I am not the right kind of Christian or not one at all by right wing fundies and sometimes I don't feel welcome by progressives because of my faith. I am for gay marriage and equal rights for all. It irritates the bejabbers out of me that we even have to have the discussion. At times I say stupid things like when Craig was arrested in a public bathroom and after I think about the absurdity of what I said (worrying about children and then realizing in 54 years I have never seen or heard sex in a public restroom) and apologize and vow to do better. I have protested abstinence programs and although I believe abortion should be a last resort, I don't believe it's used for birth control. It's a decision that women put a lot of thought into and women have shared their heartache about having to make the decision and I have no right to judge. No one has the right to judge them.

People like Huckabee and Romney are dangerous to our country. If the founding fathers had wanted a theocracy, we would have had one. No matter how much the founding father's words are distorted or how many fundies lie about what they said, you cannot deny they did not want religion to rule the government.

22. if God and Jesus are so all-fired powerful, why do they need the help of
any human to "come into" someone's life; especially a politician "human?"

Don't these "people" realize they make their God and Jesus look weak and incompetent?
