SALT LAKE CITY -- Government may have dropped the ball in modern American society, but religion dropped it first, Gov. Mike Huckabee told Southern Baptist pastors Sunday night.

"The reason we have so much government is because we have so much broken humanity," he said. "And the reason we have so much broken humanity is because sin reigns in the hearts and lives of human beings instead of the Savior."

Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, addressed his contemporaries at the two-day Pastors' Conference, which continues today. The three-day Southern Baptist Convention begins Tuesday here in the heartland of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the city in which the Mormons have their world headquarters.

<snip>

"Government knows it does not have the answer, but it's arrogant and acts as though it does," Huckabee said. "Church does have the answer but will cowardly deny that it does and wonder when the world will be changed."

On a positive note...if this asshat gets the GOP nod, it should be child's play to paint him as a complete and utterly insane Jeebus Freak.

2. I have nothing against religion but
when was this nation build on Christ. Why all of a sudden are the republicans so hyped up on religion?

Why are they so stupid as to not to know what is in the Constitution? Then I guess since bush has trashed so much of it the religious nuts in this country think they can dismantle the separation of church and state.

5. Has he forgotten he is running for President of the United States
and not Minister of the United States?

Perhaps he needs to be reminded that President of the United States is a GOVERNMENTAL office...and if he truly believes that government does not have the answer and is arrogant, there is no really good reason for him to seek to become President. Unless he wants to do so in order that the Office of the President be done away with, and the entire United States government be done away with, and a theocracy installed in its place. And if that is what he wants to do, he needs to be honest and say so, and see how many people line up behind that.

7. Why don't they just rename their party?
All the righties talk about these days is religion, religion, religion - not "republicanism". So why don't they re-brand themselves as the American Christian Party? Or maybe as the Born-Again Rapture-Ready Bible party? Or the Jesus Jesus 9/11 Jihad Jesus Party of Jesus?

21. How did Christ lose our nation?
Did it happen in the last seven years by any chance, Mr. Huckabee? Who has been the dominant, unquestioned power in our country lately? Please explain, in excruciating detail if at all possible, how starting wars and squandering our national treasure on machines of death and the men and women to operate them is Christian? How does starving our own people in service to that wehrmacht further a specifically Christian agenda?

I know a thing or two about the Bible myself, Mr. Huckabee. And I would relish the opportunity to hear you explicate on those and other subjects. Go ahead. I've got my NRSV right here, and eagerly await specifics rather than platitudes.

"Fuckballs. I must have my America back!!!! My followers are not working hard enough!!! RAAOOR!!!"

Huckabee could never be as pious as this pope(from cracked.com):

Honorius III (1216-1227)
Honorius III would seem to be one of hundreds of relatively uninteresting popes who fill in the years between the badass ones. But, like a furry with an erotic squirrel costume so convincing that against all odds it gives you an erection, Honorius was one of those guys who was so good at something lame that it actually made him a badass.

In this case, Honorius was so pious that the temptations of this world were too easy for him, so he routinely summoned demons just to challenge himself. He even wrote a book about it so that your local parish priest could test himself against the denizens of the netherworld by opening some kind of flaming portal to hell.

After a hard day of "reforming the clergy" <snip> the meek and saintly old man retired to his chambers. His lackeys no doubt thought he was busily devising new ways to bore the hell out of them. Actually, he was drawing pentagrams on the floor and interrupting the slumber of various imps, cacodemons and even the final boss of his spiritual exercises, the terrifying spider mastermind.

What could be more frustrating for the demons? When one of these monstrosities is forcibly brought to the earthly realm, at least it usually gets to disembowel someone; depending on the skill of summoner, either the wizard's enemies or the wizard himself.

How do you think they felt when they came face to face with a bossy and spiritually invincible pope? "God be with you, my cacodemon. Now, do my dishes. After you're done, you can help yourself to a hard candy from the dish and then go back to hell."

I had no idea Jesus
was one of the founding fathers
of America. I had no idea that
freedom of religion meant freedom
to be a Christian only. I just want
to know, which boat was Jesus on, the
Pinta, the Nina or the Santa Marie?
