It took all day, but I realize that this conclusion really fits into the puzzle quite perfectly.

3. Dick Cheney/George Bush could probably do a lot more without getting impeached, too.
Anything short of full-scale war with Iran and I doubt the Democrats have the political will to push a successful impeachment.

Considering that the evidence is one of the proofs Bush lied, can we trust the Junta with their claim that the evidence is actually destroyed?

20. I agree--there's something that was said that contradicts what
we know now about 9/11, I'll bet. Read that in HuffPo (Gerald Posner post). However, it could be that the interrogations were simply BRUTAL, and against the laws at the time.

the sharp side of the sword. We've already had the torture debate, and they clearly don't have a problem with having it again.

27. The HuffPo piece said that the info extracted from Zubayda (9/11 terrorist) was
gained under painkillers and truth serum. It said that Zubayda thought his captors were Saudi (a hoax pulled by the American captors), and said things that indicated that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia knew that 9/11 was going to happen.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia cover substantial ground. When you say they knew, I'm assuming the whole population of both nations did not know. So who did?

...according to a BBC report last week. But then he outs Plame for all the world to see! What about protecting her identity?

I used to feel sorry for Bush believing he was just a rube out of his element. But now I despise him with all my being!

14. Does ANYONE Seriously Doubt This?
Does any right-thinking person seriously doubt that Bush ordered the CIA Torture Tapes to be destroyed?

This entire ridiculous story about how "the White House" -- Harriet Miers -- knew about the tapes and "suggested" that they not be destroyed is pure BULLSHIT.

You cannot tell me that Miers did not go to Bush and tell him about the plan to destroy the tapes, and then ask him what should be done with them.

Bush obviously used some kind of "code" to indicate that the tapes were to be destroyed.

The way this story is being reported just makes me sick.

19. Exactly!
After Harriet Meirs "advised" the CIA not to destroy the Torture Tapes, she likely went and got them -- and destroyed them HERSELF.

See how it all works?

30. Actually, it works like this. You create a memo to cover the crime.
Why would Meirs advise the CIA to "not" destroy something? If the destruction was being discussed, if it was planned, or if there was an order to destroy it from Bush and a cover story was needed just in case.

Anyone think that Jay Rockefeller is really going to make himself look bad? I hope the DOJ investigates--they would do a better job, hopefully. This is Mukasey's first big test.

31. Probable Scenario: They lied to Rockefeller about this and lots more.
Oddly, in the case of the crime "Lying to Congress" and especially to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, there will be no question in Sen. Jay Rockefeller's mind about the veracity of the witnesses, himself, Pelosi, and Harmon, and I wouldn't want to be in his sights if I had lied to him!! I pity the junta if he is truly pissed off for deceiving Congress. I suspect that is why he wants to do his own inquiry, because he and his Committee was lied to.

33. Bush would not have been there - the videos couldn't prove anything about his involvement.
Even if someone on the tapes said 'this comes to you directly from the Commander in Chief" it would not make any difference.

35. Unless, he was in communication and watching the feed. Maybe that is why it was filmed.
The military works like that today, with fully-connected remote forces being monitored on video monitors at bases on the other side of the world in real time.

I would expect that someone was watching the torture somewhere, and certainly Bush and Cheney could have been tuned in and participating remotely. That may be another reason why the videos were destroyed (if you even believe they were).
