MSNBC Tries Out Show for RACHEL MADDOW!
Edited on Mon Dec-10-07 12:58 AM by NYCGirl
This is GREAT news!

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/msnbc/msnbc_tries_out_maddow_wolff_72350.asp?c=rss

TVNewser tipsters tell us MSNBC taped a pilot with radio talk show host Rachel Maddow and MSNBC prime time VP Bill Wolff. Maddow is a frequent guest on MSNBC, she appeared regularly on Tucker Carlson's former 11pmET show, The Situation. Wolff, who was the EP of that show, has been running MSNBC's prime time since September 2005. No word on if the pilot is being considered ready for take-off.

6. Great news. A little while ago, a few of us were saying how Tucker should be off and Rachel should
have her own show. Hope that's what happens! She is so mart, well-spoken and just plain
lovely. I would definitely make it a point to watch her. (I even wrote to MSNBC, suggesting just that.)
Can it be - someone listens??

116. Call the cable provider, say you're her, and GRIPE.
Or better still, write a letter, and demand to know WHEN MSNBC will be added.

Get her friends to do it, too. Threaten to go to DISH. That's how it works. They only respond to challenges to their bottom line!

41. I know. I heard her interview the man on her radio show.
My remark was somewhat tongue-in-cheek/in-jokish.

y'see...Rachel went to great lengths to avoid using the word "bitch" when describing our nation's relationship with China a few days ago, but she did wind up concluding that we were, in fact, China's bitch.

And I know that while she's ultra-cordial when dealing with Pat on the TeeVee and elsewhere, she's also acknowledged that she didn't like being seen in public with a copy of Pat's book when preparing for her interview, to the extent that she actually turned its jacket cover inside-out when carrying it around in a nearby coffeeshop.

The pubs are scared to death of her, or should be. I second the request to have someone other than resident MSNBC douche Pat Buchanan on as the opposing guest. Yeah, he's against the war, which is something, but he's a schmuck in practically everything else, and often just blathers. Isn't there anyone more intelligent to represent the pubs. How bout trotting out Grover Norquist? Let the unwashed see the great instigator.

27. Rachel's Come A Loooooooooong Way
I first heard her on the first days of AAR and have followed her growth and progress ever since. For those who have access, she's in "Left Of The Dial" in just a cameo role...working behind the scenes. Her first TV appearances weren't too good, either...she was uncomfortable with the medium and wasn't ready to deal with the right wing assholes. She learned and has developed a personality that works very well on TV now. It's great to see someone work hard and be recognized for that hard work.

Cheers, Rachel!!!

29. Great news, but let's lose the co-host.
The only "straight man" (no pun intended) Rachel needs, now, is Kent Jones. Now!

But this is nitpicking. I'm delighted to hear this, and I'm hoping it turns into a prime-time Teevee show for her. That would be well-deserved for her, and a new level of "informative" to the rest of us in the general viewing public.

65. The similarities -- let's see...
They both cover stories of interest to progressives. They both use irony and humor to make a point. Is that what you mean?

Oh yeah, they're likely to cover the same stories, but Rachel goes on first. You still don't explain what you think she does poorly. Keith wouldn't agree with you, considering how often he has Rachel on as a guest. They both have their features, their schtick, but neither invented that. (Even O'Reilly has regular segments.)

The differences are many. Keith's regular commentators are mostly from the MSM. And he obviously doesn't play the anti-corporatist as much. Rachel has more people on from the alternative press and blogs. My fear is putting her on TV might dilute her message.

I listen to both when I can. They complement each other. Rachel's show is excellent, but you are entitled to your opinion.

Edited on Mon Dec-10-07 04:31 PM by jgraz
The similarities are endless:

1) Both shows talk about the news.
2) Rachel Maddow regularly appears on both shows.
3) Both shows sometimes use a *crash* sound effect.
4) Both shows sometimes employ humor to make a point
5) Both shows are in English
6) Both shows are hosted by a ..um.. host.
7) Neither host is a fan of the Pretzledunt.
8) Neither show has ever interviewed Kim Jong Il. Or Fidel Castro.
9) Neither host has ever done the show naked
10) Both hosts are lusted after by women everywhere

Case closed.

51. I posted a rumor about it on my blog last Friday
http://ltradio.blogspot.com/2007/12/from-this-is-how-rumors-get-started.html

Finally, a note under the door says Air America Radio’s Rachel Maddow will be offered the hour following Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, but only with a ‘funny’ co-host... Rumor is the cable channel’s execs are impressed with Maddow, but she’s not perceived as ‘funny’ enough by herself for the uptempo news/comedy format they’re seeking. Paul F. Tompkins and Joel McHale, that guy Keith has on who hosts E!s “The Soup,” have been mentioned as co-hosts.

53. funny?
Anyone who has heard Rachel's radio show knows that she can be pretty funny. She doesn't need a co-host, she'll do just fine carrying the show herself.

Can't imagine Rachel without 'Kent Jones, NOW! with Kent Jones'

She'd at least have to license a "Monkey!" voice clip.

Loved them as a team on the old AAR.

If they want funny...either Winstead or Marc Maron.

Edit to add:

Kent Jones!! What about The News with Kent Jones...featuring...KENT JONES! Cracks me up

91. I think Thomkins and McHale both suck...
They bring down Keith's show, are rarely funny, and add nothing to the content. Maybe they are good on their respective shows.

Kent Jones, on the other hand, is fucking great!

Do you all know that he is Lawton Smalls?:patriot:

113. Oy. Couldn't agree more re: Paul F & Joel McHale on Countdown.
Those segments kill me. KO's attempts at humor segments with these guys, and the others, is sooooo painful. It's like watching The Office, Extras, Curb Your Enthusiasm, where you're in physical pain from being embarrassed for the spectacle they're making of themselves.

63. Rachel would be a perfect replacement for Fucker Bowtie, now if we
could only get Tweety Matthews replaced by someone who has a clue. His hatred of any and all things Clinton has colored his judgment about everything he has uttered in the last 10 years. Somehow he has gotten the impression that the audience is more interested in hearing his opinions on any and all subjects that he rarely lets his guests say more than two words before he interrupts and corrects them with his own lame brained, faulty, tortured ramblings.

You just have to laugh at Tweety when he tries to issue his own "special comments" of late. He gives a stern lecture (trying desperately to not appear to copy KO but of course that is exactly what he is doing)about the dumbest things, making no sense, straining like a constipated elephant to push out some pearl of wisdom that will be repeated on Crooks and Liars or YouTube without making him appear as the dumbass jerk that he is. His faux outrage and concern is too little, too late, too biased to be anything but a trite waste of oxygen.

Begone Tweety, I hear there is a junior college somewhere in Kansas who is just dying to give you an asst. professorship for your lack of talents.

And finally, you just know he is pissed that Keith's book is climbing the Amazon best seller lists - not even out yet - while his pathetic little scribblings came and went in the blink of an eye.

76. I discussed this possibility on a DU thread yesterday!
I noticed how many times Rachel's been on with Keith, Abrams, and several other shows. Certainly I can't read minds, but I think that's one of the ways a network can preview potential hosts.

I'm actually hoping they replace Tucker, but I also suspect Abrams doesn't really want to have to prep for a daily show after he was promoted to GM.

We'll see. Rachel would be a GREAT addition to their lineup!

Finally, a KO "imittator". You do realize that, due to his show's meteroic success, had it been about ANY OTHER topic than genuine restance to Bushies and debunking their lies and exposing stuff the MSM is otherwise forbidden to discuss, there would be a half-dozen Keith-type shows already.

However, the very fact that Keith was allowed on the air, or that Rachel is being considered for her own show, is hopeful.

And hope is in very short supply these days.

Then I'd be able to see KO and Ms. Maddow. I'm so pissed off that MSNBC isn't offered with the basic+ package. But I was pissed off at the cable company at jacking my rates up continually. And with our incredible diversity of media comglomerates...NOT!...I don't have much choice. Maybe I'll try DirecTV.

Rachel is great. It's tough for me to rank between the Air-Americans Rachel, Thom Hartmann, and Stephanie Miller; each has his/her own strengths. Stephanie has the most entertainment value with her über-talented sidekick Jim Ward and straight(?)-man Chris Lavoie. Thom is incredibly knowledgeable, and seems to have almost encyclopedic recall of facts, as well as being a great debater. Rachel brings a great attitude, excellent debate skills, and a knack for exposing right-wing fallacies in a easily-understandable way.

But I'd love to see ANY of them on TV on a regular basis!

Come on, Rachel, make it happen. If you get on MSNBC, use your clout to get Sam back on AAR daily.

Aside from Rachel being extremely informative and wildly rational next to all the Right Wing hosts, I can't wait to hear the Right Wing venom at MSNBC allowing a gay to have their own show, being allowed to champion her lesbian agenda.

Right now we get to listen to TWO solid hours of Rachel on Air America every night. I NEVER miss her show and love the luxury of spending two hours listening to such an interesting, well-informed, intelligent ... and to my mind ... nice person.

If she got a TV show, she would have to share much of that hour with other people.. so, in the end, we will actually get a LOT LESS of her.
