Tax rates through the decades

The thing that I find most ironic is this.. The rightwingers love to harken back to "the Good Ole Days" when 'Murika was powerful and strong..and the envy of the world..When was that? The post WWII era & the "Leave it to Beaver Era"... and THAT era had the HIGHEST taxes paid...

These freaks have somehow convinced themselves that we can return to that prosperous time, by paying LESS and LESS into the government coffers..

That long-ago era was also the era of FREE college (in California...for residents)..union wages for MOST men..families could and DID survive on ONE wage-earner.. People bought new cars, new houses, took vacations, and they SAVED money in banks..very few ever used CREDIT...and they paid HIGH taxes too... and there were even federal excise (luxury) taxes on many items...
