Should our next president surveil the neoconservatives?
Edited on Sun Dec-09-07 02:06 AM by Marr
I don't ask this out of some petty desire for payback, though it would be rather poetic justice.

It seems to me like they have every reason to want more terrorist attacks to occur after the Republicans lose power-- especially if their Iraq folly is brought to an end. They've been claiming that it would happen if Democrats were elected for a long time. Another domestic attack could really box the next president into looking like they're retreating if the withdraw or even redeploy.

2. Declare them enemy combatants...
and subject them to enhanced interrogation about their ties to the House of Saud.

3. Neocons aren't only Repubs
It's an ideology, not a political party. It'll survive with either Repubs or Dems in power, but definitely with the help of "New" Dems.

4. Why not. The Weekly Standard usually has a pretty funny parody story in the back,
and after 2008 the neocons aren't going to have much to do but sell magazines.

6. I have a friend who proposes not just surveillance of the neo-cons and their little helpers,

but investigations into what degree of treason this bunch committed, followed by trials, and then executions for anyone convicted of engaging in treason via aiding and abetting the neo-conservative movement.

It's a bit (read: far too) extreme for me, but I thought I'd mention it in your thread, for those who will accuse you of "going too far."

8. It depends what you mean by "surveil"
If you mean break the law and use such means as illegal wiretapping, not just no, but hell no. The means do not justify the ends. If you mean keep an eye on them, sure. What I want to see is all the neocons swept out of State and Defense and Homeland Security- as well as any other corner of the gov't. Marginalize them, get them out of gov't, fight them with legal means, but don't cross the line.

So what did you mean by "surveil"?
