I know that others have posed the question: How do we make our government fear us?

Isn't this the crux of the problem?

Speaking for myself, I fear my government. It should be the other way around. My government should fear me.

Isn't this the reason we are losing everything?

1. I would be happy if they just listen to the concerns of the majority
The old guard must be voted out. I make it a point to vote for the challenger, not the incumbent. Yes, I am very independent.

2. Remember those old bumperstickers that said: "I love my country,
but I fear my government"?

funny how you don't see them anymore now that the RRR wackos have become what those assholes feared most...

3. A voting system that actually worked and a free press.
In a perfect America, the media would inform the people as they should, allowing us to vote those out of office who don't represent our best interests.

7. Torches and pitchforks?
"Sire, Sire! The peasants are revolting!"

King: "Yes, they certainly are."

Facetiousness aside, obviously our government has absolutely nothing to fear from a nation of ignorant obese easily distracted consumers.

8. Good question. Off the top of my head, I think we need more face-to-face time.
I'd like to see our electeds be unable to run TV ads--too easy. Make them stump in their districts--shake LOTS more hands, fo to lots of picnics, actaully touch those that they represent.

The DC electeds are simply too isolated--they know more about the lobbyist from Big Oil than they do about their neigbor across the street.

Gad, my idea is weak. I can't come up with an answer, but you are absolutely right. We are their bosses but they forget it--and so do we.
