Fastest Way to lose a Presidential election>>>
Edited on Thu Dec-06-07 08:58 PM by Pavulon
Start pushing gun control. I believe the party has said it has no interest in this issue. This is VERY wise.

There is a supreme court case in line to affirm the individual ownership of firearms. Considering the make up of the court, it is a good bet that the outcome will affirm the 2nd amendment as individual right to bear arms as regulated by the feds.

Any moron who states a gun ban is reasonable is on par with a moron that say we should deport all people who are here illegally. Stupidity on a monumental scale. It is not enforceable.

The last effective gun control came about in the late 60's. All subsequent "bans" have had one real impact. Loss of votes. None actually had meaningful impact on firearms.

You are welcome to your personal opinion. Please dont ruin it for the rest of us. Assuming there is no political meltdown we have a great chance of winning the presidency and putting real positive change in effect for this country.

Banning pistol grips and bayonets is not meaningful.

MY INTENT IS NOT A GUN DEBATE, but a discussion on the impact this issue has on voters.

EDIT:3rd Grade Spelling Error

1. What to do
I don't want a debate either. America has more guns and more violence than many other developed Nation. We got problems and guns won't solve them.

4. The swiss have access
to real automatic weapons. Not replicas. So do many european nations' citizens.

However I believe there is a cultural problem at work. The line between reality and fantasy has been blurred for some.

Cant say why..

2. Two points: 1) Gun Control is a losing issue for our Party. 2) It's "Lose", not "Loose".

7. That one is epidemic, that's why I even bother to mention it. I'm really not the Grammar Police type
On the broader point, I've said for a long time that the way for our party to win long-term is to define ourselves as the party of personal freedom, in contrast to the theocrats who have taken over the GOP with their authoritarian impulses.

We should stand up strong for the rights of people to run their own lives, control their own bodies.. get government out of people's bedrooms and bloodstreams. End the drug war, stand up strong for the separation of church and state, reproductive choice and the right of GLBT citizens to full marriage equality.. end the "wars" on consenting adult behavior and entertainment, etc.

...if a consistent personal freedom agenda means reminding the message to the American people that most Democrats have no problem with responsible firearm ownership, I'm down with that too.

8. The poll you reference deals with stricter laws on the sale of firearms.
The poll underneath it shows a clear majority of Americans think personal firearm ownership should be (or remain) legal.
