OBERLIN, Ohio -- An artist whose creation of gingerbread Nazis drew complaints last year is back with a new public art display featuring a murderous snow woman and a drug-smuggling elf.
Keith McGuckin said he chooses art projects to entertain people.
His latest creation, which stands in the lobby of the Oberlin Public Library, about 30 miles southwest of Cleveland, depicts a snow woman who kills her snowman husband by running him through a snow cone machine.
Another display at a downtown crafts store depicts a drug-smuggling elf in a police lineup.
Krista Long, owner of the Ben Franklin crafts store, said she hopes the display doesn't offend customers.
"I'm not saying I agree or disagree, but I think it's refreshing to see a different point of view," she said.
Heavy complaints forced McGuckin to remove last year's gingerbread Nazis display from the window of a hardware store, where the owner said McGuckin had gone too far. McGuckin, who said the subject was meant to provoke thought, relocated the display to an empty storefront in nearby Wellington.
In previous winters, McGuckin's creations have included a "caroler-bashing" snowman and a little boy excited about using his chemistry set to create the illegal drug crystal meth.
McGuckin said he's learned which subjects to tackle, and which ones to leave alone.
"I try to stay away from religion and NASCAR," he said. "I don't need any good old boys following me home."http://www.newsnet5.com/news/14777831/detail.html:rofl:
