Hello ... Frank Zappa ...

14 Years ago today one of the most prolific Modern American composers departed on his "Last Tour".

The Zappa Family Trust continues to release Zappa material at an unbelievable pace.
Discover Zappa, if you haven't. If you have ... Do it again.

Here's to you Frank !

Cheers

1. Go see Zappa Plays Zappa on tour... or Project Object.
Edited on Tue Dec-04-07 10:33 AM by Bonobo
The former is Dweezil and Steve Vai, Terry Bozio et al. playing Zappa tunes. The latter is Ray White, Napoleon Murphy Brock and other great musicians doing the same on a smaller scale.

Check it out is right.

2. I have ...
seen Project/Object several times. Great band. Very young and talented. Last time I saw them, Ike, Napolean and Don Harris were touring with them. I got autographs on albums that featured them.

I have not seen ZPZ, but I would love to.

Cheers

3. Good man.
Where you at?

I'm in Northampton, MA. They usually kick off their tour here.

4. Yeah, 14 years ago and I still miss him.
But damn, that new DVD featuring Apostrophe and Overnight Sensation looks mighty tempting. And the promise of a little Freak Out! and Hot Rats on the side.
<tongue wagging>

9. I have always loved that ...
version of the song.

When it first came out, the first thing I thought was "a live band will never be able to do this song".

Cheers

8. Memories From The Central Scrutinizer
Sad to say, I didn't like the way Frank redid his early vinyls...Freak Out, We're Only In It For The Money, Lumpy Gravy...too many overdubs, but it's still great to listen to.

Many times I wonder what Frank's take on today's politicial and social scene. No doubt he would have spoken out against the booosh regime and the commercialization of art and popular culture.

Cheers to a voice who provided hours and years of both enjoyment and inspiration.

Now is that a real poncho or a Sears poncho?

12. Just made two Zappa wall papers
Edited on Tue Dec-04-07 11:55 AM by alfredo
I made a flat background so you can easily edit them to fit different monitors. Both are 1280 X 960. Forgot to add: Both made using GIMP.

15. Thannks for reminding me.
I was in a black mood for weeks when he died.

Zappa is so so great. It hurts my brain to see youngsters who think they know whats up, who have no clue about Zappa.
Frank is my Elvis, as Matt Groening says.

16. Wow, 14 years
His death was one of the only times I felt personally affected by the death of a musician I never knew personally. (Stevie Ray Vaughn and Freddy Mercury being the other two)

17. I remember
sticking "Zappa for President" signs all over Seattle not long before that. I was trying to jumpstart a campaign, figured if enough people were demanding he run, he might actually consider it...

Too bad about his diet of cigarettes and coffee, probly killed him, first thing I thought when he died, though he had been sick for awhile...

A whole generation awaits a Clue :)
