4. Yes
I will resist the POLITICALLY CORRECT pressure to diss the other December holidays. Those who try to FORCE everyone to say ONLY "Merry Christmas" don't understand the "reason for the season."

So HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you!

Yule has been around a heck of a lot longer than these upstart religions like Christianity.

In Estonia and Scandinavia, Yule is still the official name of the holiday, even though the date has been shifted from the eve of the winter solstice to the evening of the 24th. Pagans celebrate on the eve of holidays,as seen with Beltane (May Eve) and Hallowe'en (All Hallow's Eve).

Estonians marked the season with Yule trees as far back as the 15th Century. According to WorldInfoZone's website, Estonia's capital,Tallinn was the site of the first Christmas Tree in the world. In 1441 the fraternity of Tallinn's unmarried merchants, called the Blackheads, put up a Christmas Tree in the Town Hall Square. They drank, sang and danced with girls around the decorated spruce. The culmination of the party was the burning of the Christmas Tree.

Must have been a hell of a party.

6. Keep the Sol in Solstice
It was a celebration of the birth of the Sun long before it was ever a celebration of the birth of the Son.
