Poll question: Term limits
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 02:43 PM by DemKR
In light of the people of Venezuela voting down their right to put whoever they want on the ballot, I thought I would post this poll..

Please explain your choice.

Si means you are for term limits, No means you're against them.

1. Forget Venezuela, we don't dare trust U.S. pols.
I strongly support term limits for U.S. Presidents. I do not for Congress.

3. Let them run. If they get a majority of the votes they win.
It should be up to the people who gets elected.

4. The American people were very wise to ratify the 22nd Amendment
Otherwise, we would have had Ronny Reagan for life, or Heaven forbid, George W. Bush!

Now, if only we could get one on Representatives and Senators....

10. You Realize Of Course That The 22nd Amendment And Term Limits Are Republican Ideas, Dont You ???
The 22nd Amendment was a direct response to FDR's 4 terms, and I for one am damned glad FDR was there for all of them. Didn't complete the fourth, but I'm still damned grateful he was in charge.

The Republicans OTOH, tried to float the idea of over-turning the 22nd Amendment, for Saint Ronnie of Reagan, but knew it wasn't going anywhere.

Term limits came up again during the Gingrich Revolution, and again were not very successful.

As I said above, we already have term limits, it's called voting the bums out!

5. Term limits can take care of themselves either way
I figure stop with 500-some people "representing" 300,000,000-some people.

You could put more seats into office, but that's too many cooks in the kitchen.

You could break down the current setup, and go with a more localized structure, but that's going against the momentum of thousands of years of history.

Or we could keep doing the same thing, since it's far easier to bribe 500-some people than it would be to bribe 300,000,000 some people. Well, wait, now that I think about it...

6. Yes. I would like them in my country as well.
Blair and Thatcher ended up as arrogant little 'elected dictators' by staying so long.

I don't think there need to be term-limits for MPs/ Congress, as they don't have the same power as individuals.

8. No to term limits so long as the elections are done fairly with outside...
interests (countries) as observers and only voting machines that provide a proper paper trail.
