HAHAHAHA: Gallup sez Republicans are more mentally healthy
Republicans Report Much Better Mental Health Than Others

Relationship persists even when controlling for other variables

PRINCETON, NJ -- Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats or independents to rate their mental health as excellent, according to data from the last four November Gallup Health and Healthcare polls. Fifty-eight percent of Republicans report having excellent mental health, compared to 43% of independents and 38% of Democrats. This relationship between party identification and reports of excellent mental health persists even within categories of income, age, gender, church attendance, and education.

The basic data -- based on an aggregated sample of more than 4,000 interviews conducted since 2004 -- are straightforward.

1. I have doubts about any research involving rating yourself.
It is funny though, closed mined people rate themselves are healthy.

2. The research isn't on whether people are actually mentally healthy.
It's on how people rate themselves. So the method is obviously valid, but the title of this topic is offbase.

4. Most insane people do not know they are crazy...
Seriously, though, these are the "conservatives" who never can admit they might have doubts because the whole mental construct would collapse. They build elaborate facades of denial--like Senator Craig, J. Edgar Hoover and Karl Rove.

One Bush atrocity after another takes its toll. The Rethugs love Big Brother and feel safe and mentally sound (although we know better).

8. Well, they probably are. When one doesn't give a damn
about the health and welfare of others, really---what's there to be depressed about?

No empathy, refusal of personal responsibility in the state of affairs, be it their own, or others--

Shit. They are probably downright blissful.

12. That only confirms they're all crazier than shithouse rats
because in my years of working psych, the one thing I found with every single bipolar, schizophrenic, borderline, psychopathic, or other seriously disturbed person was that s/he thought s/he was perfectly sane.

Depressives had distorted thinking, but knew they had distorted thinking unless it was a psychotic depression, in which case they were sane, of course.

So this study proves what we have suspected all along. Republics are nuts.

And anyone who denies that he's nuts is probably wrong.

But that's just my opinion, and I'm probably nuts.

19. Republicans More Likely to be Delusional, Study Finds
Republicans are significantly more likely to avoid reality, in favor of their own hopes and dreams, a new study finds, according to data from the last four November Gallup Health and Healthcare polls. Republicans are more likely, studies find, to believe in patently untrue things, even when presented with significant evidence to the contrary. Republicans are also significantly more likely to rate themselves intelligent, attractive, and informed about current events.

26. Just more evidence of their blind perspective. Ted Bundy probably considered himself "happy" as
well?

Though, the reality based community can be a bit depressing. I suppose I'd be happier if I believed that Saddam Hussein flew planes into the WTC. I'd be happier if I believed that the poor were just "lazy" and deserved it. And, if I believed that I was always "right" in spite of evidence to the contrary, I'd probably be skipping and whistling my way through life as well?

I do wonder if perspective changes for the privileged class when Democrats have the White House?

Look at this bogus discussion:

Correlation is no proof of causation, of course. The reason the relationship exists between being a Republican and more positive mental health is unknown, and one cannot say whether something about being a Republican causes a person to be more mentally healthy, or whether something about being mentally healthy causes a person to choose to become a Republican (or whether some third variable is responsible for causing both to be parallel).

Or, whether being a blind idiot leads one to believe they are more mentally healthy in spite of the fact that they are just ... idiots.

Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 02:09 PM by LeftHander
Look what Regan did...he declared everyone cured and closed thousands of mental health facilities and programs...

That guy sleeping on the exhaust vent, his underwear outside his pants with urine stains and caked vomit is really simply living like that by choice.

It is a lifestyle...

they are healthy than Democrats are. Translation: Democrats think about their health where Republicans believe. Caution: Belief is not a reliable mental health strategy.
