Hillary likability results -- gender differences
Earlier I posted a poll

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=2388170&mesg_id=2388170

With 106 male votes and 146 women votes the breakdown is as follows:

23% of men like her
18% of men neither like nor dislike her
59% of men dislike her

37% of women like her
8% of women neither like nor dislike her
55% of women dislike her

There must be a reason related to gender for the difference in the "like her" numbers. Any thoughts?

1. Looks even to me...
Looks like pretty much an equal number of men and women dislike her. I think these numbers might mirror her unfavorable rating in national polls. (59% in a recent Gallup Poll - this highest unfavorable going into an election in the polls history.)

Perhaps on the 'like her' more men just dont care so that answer neither like nor dislike. Perhaps more woman like the idea of a woman finally ascending to the presidency while more men feel enough of the Bush / Clinton families in politics - time for something new.

2. All this tells us is that people who dislike her are more likely to respond
to a self-selected poll.

Which is hardly surprising.

3. The net result is that men and women alike dislike her.
I'd have expected more than a 4% difference, but, overwhelmingly, she's disliked.

dislike her.

On the other hand, she received more than 60% of the vote in her adopted state of New York, including 75% of women voters. She did extremely well in all parts of the state, including both the liberal areas around NYC and the red parts of upstate NY.

If the rest of the country dislikes her as much as New Yorkers do, she'll win by a landslide.

5. I agree.......and, so, we'll nominate yet another unelectable candidate.
I fully expect her to win the nomination. And, as happened 3 years ago with Kerry, I expect us to lose.

We have an uncanny knack at sacrificing what we, individually, hold sacred to nominate a completely unelectable candidate in the name of "electibility".

6. Why do you think she is unelectable? Based on how she did in New York,
where she had strong support across all parts of the state, I would expect that she would do better than most people here seem to think.

Doing well among women, who comprise 54% of the electorate, will be key.

7. It looks like the big difference is that men tend to be indifferent a lot instead of liking her
Maybe it's because they really don't think about her much
