Frisked before being allowed to see a football game?
What dim bulb made that dumb-ass rule? We are forced to unzip our coats and have stadium security rub our arms and legs before they let us in. If someone would have been carrying a weapon it sure as hell would not have been detected with a half-assed limb rub.

Being frisked on my way into an NFL game by a part time security guard does not make me feel safer. It makes me embarrassed over what this country has become.

12. Ah yes, and it is attitudes like yours that will have the American Empire collapse with a whimper,
And not a bang. If you don't like intrusive searches that were formerly never dreamed of under America under the Constitution, don't go. If you have nothing to hide, you shouldn't mind the ever increasing intrusive police state.

There's a word for people and attitudes like that, it's called enabling, which is what has been happening across this country for the past six years. We got the Big Fear with 911 and the powers that be have been beating on it for all it's worth. What's simply amazing is how many sheeple fall right in line with it, marching right along to the slaughter.

18. Sounds like "if you don't like it, leave".
Why should we have to put up with this in the first place?

20. it's a football game
you don't have to be there

in fact, instead of giving your money to grown men getting paid millions playing children's games and to team owners who try to hold taxpayers hostage by threatening to move their teams if they don't get millions in subsidies, why not give your money to groups that truly need it

there are hundreds of charities out there that help people who truly need it

and even if this was for a college game, same thing

you have universities paying coaches hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in some cases, millions when you have campus workers who qualify for food stamps, etc

23. That's right, it's not like they have a monopoly on sports.
You can always go see one of the many other major professional sports leagues. We wouldn't have a monopoly is this great country, would we?

Right?

28. It was the first game I have attended in 35 years
And I got the obstructed view cheap seats for $9 a piece.

And I give a significant portion of my income to charity.

Thanks for judging me so harshly. I did not realize I was personally to blame for societies woes.

2. Guess that was a new NFL rule that went into effect. Same thing with
my wife and I. We had to break off into two lines. A lady with a Bush phone was yelling out women to the left, men to the right and there we all were getting into the proper lines and as you said get up there, spread your arms and get patted down. Oh well.

3. In Washington you get it before hockey, basketball, football, etc.
Actually, I feel a bit safer. They do find stuff.

Hell, if they find a few glass bottles, I'm safer.

4. It happens at collegiate games, too.
IMHO, it seems more like a violation of the 4th Amendment at public universities than with the NFL.

"The amendment applies only to governmental actors; it does not guarantee to people the right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures conducted by private citizens or organizations."

26. Granted the last collegiate game I attended was in 2000, but
I certainly wasn't frisked. The worst rules were that any water bottles you carried in had to be sealed and alcohol was prohibited.

Of course frisking the limbs isn't enough. I remember watching one guy getting a flask of alcohol duct-taped to his chest. Now that's dedication! LOL

My personal solution was just to knock down a bunch of drinks before entering the stadium.

5. I was once frisked
while waiting to see a 49er game at the old Kezar stadium. When I threatened to hit the guy he quit.

6. It's not for weapons - it's for food and booze - they sell that inside now!
I remember bringing all of that to the games. We used to bring (good) hotdogs in a thermos! The guys in front of us had crackers and that cheese in a can!

8. It is embarassing
That we are that paranoid.

But for them, it's probably to make sure you're not bringing your own beer so they can sell you $10 beers.

It's a ripoff and it amazes me so many people give so much $$ for professional sports.

(I think it was security looking for booze rather than weapons :toast:)

for alcohol, not weapons. I stopped going to shows and sporting events years ago just like flying, because I refuse to pay to have my privacy invaded.

14. Black wheelchair bound female wanting to fly. That's pure joy!
Now I'm on the no fly list and have to go begging my Congressman to cut some tape for me any time I want to go anywhere near an airport. Then when I get there they feel up my boobs, smell all my packed undies and stick a metal detection wand in my crotch.

Keeping us safe my ass....................

maybe wear them for a day to three before packing them? As for the crotch wand and the boobs.... I'd ask "was it good for you too?"

13. Yep, hold your arms up for NFL football
and walk through metal detector doors for NHL games (I attend both). At the last hockey game, I turned to my wife and said, look at the trained monkeys inspecting the sheep.

21. Try going to see the Liberty Bell
six months later I'm still amused at having to line up in front of a huge line of security guys(ARMED security) have my bag searched (and I don't mean a cursory glance inside - they opened up my make up bag and a packet of tampons to check inside) AND get patted down just to see a frickin bell?!?!?

There's not a lot of liberty around it that's for sure - is Osama really all that keen to break an already broken bell of dubious significance?

Probably because I've been patted down so many times at concerts and games over the years. This is nothing new.

24. Minor-league hockey game and college basketball
At the Harbor Yard Arena in Bridgeport, CT. Bridgeport, which isn't that safe of a city to begin with, and the area around the Arena is in pretty bad. If you try to take the local roads to bypass the morass trying to get back on the interstate, you could get in trouble.

First time this happened, well, I of course had my usual pocket knife on me. Everybody failed to mention to me that "in the post-9/11 world" they had started wanding people.

Well, hell, I had to run back to the car to put my pocket knife in it. And I don't do running very well.

Yet, when I went to a Twins game in the summer of 2006, my girlfriend just had to let the cops (yes, real cops) take a cursory peak in her bag for glass bottles. And yes, I had my pocket knife on me.

If there was a real terrorist threat in this country, the first thing they would do is start targeting security checkpoints. Once a few dozen fans and guards get turned into chunky salsa or shot full of holes, an awful lot of the guards will decide it's not worth the $9 an hour.
