1. Why are you assuming that it won't be Obama in the first place?

3. I think the first is stronger.
Biden has two advantages over Obama in the VP spot... Foreign Relations experience and also ties to the Senate.

In fact, that is my choice ticket.

However, Obama would be better in the top spot than Biden, I think. He built a better orgainization, and doesn't like to hear himself speak quite so much.

5. I agree the stronger is Edwards/Biden. And let me say this, I do love Obama also
I just think Edwards/Biden will get the vote more than Edwards/Obama.

12. You mean from Edwards or the theoretical running mates?

Don't know what Obama and Biden have said on the subject. And of course, to hear Edwards' views on finance reform, one need only open their ears.

7. The "conventional wisdom" goes with Edwards/Obama
It's North + South ... Illinois is a high electoral vote state ... Obama would gain Executive Branch experience. Delaware is one of the smallest states and doesn't span enough geography together with the Carolinas to 'regionally' attact much more than Mid-Atlantic.

Biden isn't compatible with the Edwards' "anti-corporatist" theme ... but would make an excellent Secretary of State, imho.

10. We sure as heck don't need a candidate from IL to win it
That is one of the bluest states in the country. If we are only talking about Obama or Biden, we'd should talk about what they would do nationally. Obama has the "fresh face" and youth advantage (which I have yet to see help a Dem win), Biden has the experience. They are both great speakers.

Also, VP's usually aren't chosen to be compatible, they are chosen to complement. Cheney was the dickhead to Bush's compassionate conservative. Gore was seen as being too close to the Clinton/Lewinsky thing, so they picked Lieberman as the anti-Clinton.

8. Neither. He will need a reddish-state woman.
If by some odd chance he gets the nomination, it will be close, and there will be a huge letdown for people, both for and against Clinton specifically, who were expecting a woman to get the nomination. Edwards will need a running mate from "middle America", with experience and populist charisma (centrist or liberal, doesn't matter). Sibelius and Landrieu would be my top two choices, although my feelings about Landrieu are from being in N.O. the week of the 2002 runoff. I've never seen a politician before or since as on fire as she was that week.

11. Check out my avatar.
While I would love to see Sebelius on the ticket, I think Edwards would probably go for someone with a lot of perceived experience, especially on the foreign end.

9. Gore and Kucinich and Edwards
I like Biden and Obama and Dodd and Hillary where they are, in the Senate.

Make Bill Richardson our UN Ambassador.

Wes Clark, Secretary of Defense.

Impeach Bushler now.

13. I like both Kucinich and Edwards, but I'm not sure how well they would work together.
Each of these men's strengths is in the domestic policy arena. I think Kucinich has the edge in foreign policy, but that is the exclusive territory of the Prez.

I think that Gore is a non-factor. He has been around long enough to know that the next President will almost certainly only get one term, there is an absolute shitstorm of crises coming and, fair or not, the President will be blamed. So unless he/she can pull off a miracle, we will get another Republik in 2012.

I didn't even vote this one.

15. Edwards/Biden of the two.
I don't think we can have both Edwards and Obama on the same ticket.

16. Biden for foreign policy experience.
Edwards the progressive populist is perfect to handle the pressing needs at home as we head into a massive recession/depression.

17. Perhaps you also need
to put each ticket against several other Republican possibilities.

And, quite frankly, I honestly don't think the VP position matters, despite what political pundits (and poll-takers on DU) want to think.

For instance, back in 2000, I was quite honestly appalled that Lieberman was the number 2 guy on our ticket, but it did not stop me from voting for Gore. And I don't think it made any difference whatsoever to the final outcome of that election.
