16. Like discounted heating oil for the poor!
Those lazy suckers need to freeze to death. And their snotty-nosed kids too! :silly:

5. I find myself aroused to a frenzy of apathy, too
except for the fact that he's stayed in office and that alone is poking fingers into the eyes of both his own nasty rich class and our current political administration. As for his triumphs and his mistakes within his own country, they're par for the course for any decent leader. We're one of the few countries to be cursed by perfect leadership--perfectly bad.

I'm also delighted to see South America in general shifting to the left, something it's tried to do for a century but been thwarted by the US aiding coup after coup. I'm especially pleased that Evo Morales has managed to outlast 90% of his predecessors in Bolivia, a country famous for having as many as three governments within a month as a normal course of events.

However, I find myself neither giddy with delight at news of his successful reforms nor utterly outraged by his sins on the side of repression. He is neither a superhero nor a demon and I refuse to react to him as either.

I just hope we manage to stop this administration from repeating the stupidity of all administrations past. Perhaps being distracted by two failing wars is helping.

6. Please elaborate...
Is it because you think that you and yours will ultimately benefit if he should be deposed?

7. Nice try
I'm not engaging.

Draw your own conclusions based on whatever bias you have that caused you to ask what you did, how you did.

If one is into word parsing, your agenda is obvious. Mine ..... not so much.

11. Aw, c'mon. Give the dude some credit.
Without even a hint of irony he just asked you to elaborate on an individual about whom you have it made it abundantly clear that you don't give a shit. Surely that level of clueless fanaticism deserves something!

There, I said it. Am I the only person on the planet who supports him?

10. Course not... his supporters took to the streets and risked being shot
when the US tried to oust him in the most recent coup.

Or was the most recent coup in Haiti... I can't keep up...

12. I find him entertaining!
The guy has had the full force of the *mic coming down on his neck, he bobs, he weaves, that butterfly-bee thang Ali was so famous for. I hope he can accomplish something for his people, LIKE GETTING THE PREDATORY ANGLOS OFF THEIR BACKS. Much like Ataturk, he may need to offend Ami's "sensibilities" to do so. I wish him and Venezuala ALL THE BEST!

It's quite neurotic how so many Amis get all bent out of shape about him. People who have NEVER been there, don't understand the history of Latin America, don't speak Spanish, remain in denial about the egregious HARM their gubmint has done in that region, go loop-de-loo every time his name comes up looking for another brown bogeyman to squash. And to what end? Amis are really quite the lot.

15. I always tell my language students
that definitions must be agreed to by the parties wishing to communicate. If we decide to call the chair a duck, then for us the meaning is clear. Anyone coming into our communication circle will be informed that the thing we sit on is referred to as a duck. We may also refer to the bird as a duck but it's not a problem as MANY words have multiple definitions.

17. he isn't someone that arouses passions in me one way or the
other, but I do have strong feelings about the U.S. interfering in SA, and trying to topple Chavez or any other SA head of state.
