1. Is this a new one?
There was a report earlier today of a 7.4 in Martinique.

10. Whew!
I've grown fond of you and I was worried for your safety. Glad, very glad, to hear that you're fine. Now I can concentrate on worrying about every one else who might be affected.

btw, what a great movie to show your students. But, you knew that.

:hi:

15. They loved it
We also showed Life and Debt. It was our last day of lectures. Whew indeed! They asked great questions at the end.

A Jamaican quake is overdue. Time for us to prepare for the inevitable.
Thanks for those nice thoughts :D.

24. I've got to look that one up
I haven't heard of it before. Or, if I did, I forgot about it.

I've got a number of friends who are teachers and they love it when the kids get into what's going on and ask a lot of questions.

It's been a while since we had big earthquake in the midwest too. I used to work at the Kansas Geological Society and know that we get small quakes in Kansas (http://www.kgs.ku.edu/Publications/GeoRecord/2001/vol7.3/Page1.html). They (who ever they are) say we're overdue for one too.

I mean it. I don't pay a lot of attention to the names of most posters. I usually pay more attention to the content of the posts. I learned a long time ago that you can vehemently disagree with someone on one issue but be totally in sync on another. But you, you're different. I find myself looking for your posts because they get me thinking, laughing or otherwise just plain thankful that you spend time here.

:hi: Take easy and I'll see you around the board.

5. OMG! A psychic predicted this several months ago and,
the prediction was made just before my teenage son was taking a trip to Anguilla...Made me very nervous, at the time.

O8) for all the beautiful people of the Caribbean.

7. Latest
NBC Radio St. Vincent said the earthquake extended from the British Virgin Islands to Guyana. The worst hit was Martinique as the center of the Earthquake was just off Martinique. There are reports of damage in Martinique, Guadeloupe, Barbados, St. Lucia & Trinidad & Tobago. They also reported 239 deaths, but I haven't heard that anywhere else. I'm listening to Voice of Barbados now. VOB mentioned the death of a child in Guadeloupe with his sibling in critical condition.

Here's a link for Caribbean radio stations

but other than getting into a sturdy cupboard or under our dining table, there isn't much we can do to prepare for an earthquake. :hi:

a little worried. Her cell has horrid reception. She's been so happy lately with her only son/child leaving the Navy finally! Met her in DC in Sept. 2005. Amazing human being.

Going to listen now.

Thanks much again for the info and updates!

12. Here's a CNN report
http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/americas/11/29/martinique.quake/

A magnitude-7.4 earthquake struck Thursday in the Caribbean just off the coast of Martinique, setting off shaking that triggered a reading of a strong earthquake in California, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
art.carib.quake.ap.jpg

Residents check damage to their apartment building in Barbados after an earthquake on Thursday.

The earthquake occurred just after 3 p.m.(2 p.m. ET) the USGS said. Its epicenter was northwest of Le Morne-Rouge, Martinique.

The USGS said shaking from the quake was picked up by a seismograph in California, which registered a magnitude 6.0 quake near Chico, California. But seismologists found no quake had occurred in California -- the instrument was reacting to reverberations from the Martinique quake.

16. Any news if this hit Haiti?
They're still recovering from Hurricane Noel and the major damage to food supplies it caused. Hope the earthquake didn't hit there, it's the last thing they need.
