I learned one thing from last nights debate.
I had no idea until last night that Giuliani is a midget. Standing between Romney and Thompson I feared the little fellow would get a crick in his neck from straining to see their faces. Which in itself came as a surprise. I'd never thought of anybody actually looking up to those two.

Not that I have anything against midgets, mind you. It's just that I'm not sure the country is ready for a height challenged president.

4. The taller candidate usually wins...
But if HRC wins, then that will probably be tossed out the window...

I can just hear Rudy's new ad...

Vote for me...

I'm taller than the broad...

8. It was tossed when the current midget stole beat Gore
I take that back, Gore actually won, the current midget stole the election.

9. That use to be true
It may still be. I saw a study that was done in the 1970s that showed in every presidential race -- up til then -- the taller of the two major party candidates always won. Even in 1948 with Dewey vs Truman. Truman was an inch taller than Dewey. I think McGovern was the first of the taller candidates to lose. I'm not sure what has happened -- height wise, in recent years.

11. Ford was taller than Carter. Carter won. Reagan taller than
Carter. Reagan won.

Most recently: Gore taller than Bush. Bush stole the election.
Kerry taller than Bush. Bush stole the election.

The most recent trend: the White House belongs to the candidate who steals it, regardless of height.

14. I think this list it right ...
As I noted, all winners prior to 1972 were the taller of the two major party candidates. There may have been a taller third party, but that doesn't count.

1972 I think McGovern was tallest, but am not sure. If so Nixon was the first shorter man to win.
1976 Carter may have beeen the first shorter candiddate to win.
1980 Reagan was taller than Carter
1984 Reagan was taller than Mondale.
1988 GHW Bush was taller than Dukakis
1992 Clinton taller than Bush
1996 Clinton taller than Dole
2000 Gore taller than Bush (and he polled the most votes)
2004 Kerry was taller than Bush.
Maybe we should refer to Bush as "the little people's candidate" :-)

It appears to me that only Carter and GW Bush have defeated taller candidates. Possibly Nixon over McGovern.

6. More importantly, what was more evident is that the Republican "base"
is a bunch of cowards who think that war is a football game to be won by a team of a selected few. It was also glaringly evident that anyone who looks like the base is considered a "winner." It was a scarily interesting trip inside the RW mind. To see the extent to which symbols and slogans are their reference points to the larger world over the reality that is front of them is breathtaking. Guns and missiles are body appendages. Little fearful minds looking for a daddy to make the world safe for them. Little fearful men strutting, swaggering, and posturing to look tough. Napoleon complexes all.

The other blatant thing that stood out is that they collectively see no problem with the economy right now and are just fine to have the infrastructure crumble and fall around our ears. Discussion of that was only useful as a tool for McCain to jump on his high horse about earmarks and trot it around the stage. Taxes are bad except for the ones that they collect in salaries and benefits.

13. I think Matthews is short also, wonder if that adds to his
"love" for rudi...and I am four feet 11 inches and I can make fun of midgets if I want. I just make it under the wire...Midgets are considered midgets if they are four feet 10 inches of shorter.
