About Sean Taylor's murder - does not the whole thing smell fishy?

Perhaps I've been watching too many "Forensic Files" episodes, but since when do intruders kick down bedroom doors and start blasting?

I think Taylor was the target all along.

Taylor's home was secured by a remotely operated metal gate, but police said the home's alarm system hadn't been activated when the intrusion occurred early Monday.

The home's telephone land line had been cut or was malfunctioning, as Garcia told police she couldn't get a dial tone and lost precious minutes in summoning paramedics because she had to search for her cellphone.

He may have turned his life around, but the past may have come back to haunt him. When I mentioned I wasn't surprised about the attack, some got upset with me. Michael Irvin has supposedly turned his life around, and from what I have seen, he's doing well. But if something like this happened to Michael, I wouldn't be surprised, either. Sometimes those skeletons in the closet come back to bite you.

Its being reported, here in Miami, on local news, that the phones were not working in the house, BUT that the phone lines were not cut, as had been previously reported. The delay in the 911 call was caused by this and the delay in finding a cell phone and getting it turned on, plus, unlike hard line phones, cell phone don't transmit addresses to the 911 system. Apparently there was much hysteria and getting the nature of the emergency and the address to the 911 operator was difficult.

Who knows. The story has changed a few times now.

really doesn't take anything but leaves a threat in the form of a knife on the bed and on the last visit kicks in the bedroom door and shoots the homeowner? Answer: No burglar at all.

Who aims for the groin when they're shooting someone? Answer: Jealous lovers or someone working for a jealous lover.

I think it was a warning shot, actually, someone was trying to send him a message of some sort and not neccesarily kill him (you don't think you are going to kill someone by shooting them in the leg, after all)

There are so many different versions of what happened...the latest being he was shot in the groin. MSM is still saying "leg." Why the discrepancy? I've also heard he grabbed a machete from under his bed after hearing a noise in the house. I believe it was ESPN reporting this and they also said he left the room with the machete in hand. Again, different from the original story of someone beating down the bedroom door. Very bizarre stuff.

Do others find this strange? Alarm not set, even after break-in earlier this month, possible phone "malfunction," yet the Miami police are confident enough to tell the MSM that they think "it was "more like a random event"? How do they know there was a confrontation? Can someone explain these to my skeptical self?

It doesn't surprise me that his alarm wasn't set. The rich and famous are confused and distracted just like everybody else. They don't always call the security people on time, or read the manuals, or set the codes... There's some weird ideas on DU about people with money. Haven't we all learned by now?

But the emphasis the family placed on security in the first twelve hours after the incident interests me.

The fact that the police can't state with any authority or certainty that the motive was burglary interests me.

The fact that no one else in the house was injured interests me.

The location of the fatal wound interest me.

I have some theories about this crime, but it's not really appropriate to over-speculate this early in the case.

and that ST's past caught up to him in some way. As a redskins fan, I will miss having him grow up so much in front of our eyes -- from 20 year old extremely talented, trashing talking kid with bad judgment, to a much fuller man who took family and work extremely seriously, with an obvious love of children, his daughter in particular.

Which he kept under his bed, and which his father, Pedro, said his son used for "gardening and yard work." Um, sure. A machete is just the thing to trim the rose bush. I think Sean was expecting trouble after that curious incident of a knife being left on his bed.
