Lot's Of Us DU"ers are Making Ourselves SICK over the State of Things in America!
Edited on Sat Nov-24-07 06:42 PM by KoKo01
We are PATRIOTS in the Revolutionary America sense of things...and we care about our America more than ANYONE could ever know.

But...we are being "manipulated and sauced and fried" by some kind of CORPORATE VIEW of WHAT the HOLLYWOOD VIEW of AMERICA IS!

In the late 50's and throughout the 60's and early 70's our MEDIA presented a view of American Family as some kind of BONDING...where "Leave it to Beaver" and "Father Knows Best" and "Beverly Hillbillies" and "Mayberry" plus alot of "Old West Shows" sort of Defined America for the Small Screen Tee VEE.

BUT...TIMES CHANGED...and so many of us realize that what was portrayed in Corporate M$M Tee Vee...was corrupt and designed to "eggbeat our minds in some scrambled version" of what was going on in the America of "Hallmark Cards."

"Our America" is an America of "Subjugating Ethnic Groups" and "Conqueror Philosophies" from the time Columbus did his ships in "Discovery" around the our Southern Perimeter.

So...we can read Howard Zinn and Chomsky...and we can realize we are "Conquerers and Pillagers" and we can FEEL GUILTY...but HOW DO WE MOVE FORWARD?

Are we at a CROSSROADS where PRINCIPLE over VOTE is the MOST IMPORTANT?

 AND...WHICH CANDIDATE represents PRINCIPLE over VOTE for ELECTION?

We don't have much money here on DU...and if the Lobbyists and "Powers that BE" have already Annointed Candidates...then WHERE "IS OUR VOICE" with our puny dollars dragged up from wherever we can find the "loose coins?"

1. We have to find common ground
Start someplace. Anywhere.

2. I posted a thread a while back that describes why that is going to be difficult
The extremist cabal in the new 'Murika has successfully postulated an alternate definition of reality and altered the collective dialog. This makes having any discussion at all nearly impossible.

3. Start with our lowest common denominator: representation
Edited on Sat Nov-24-07 07:44 PM by donkeyotay
It doesn't matter what your issue is, and it doesn't matter whether you are left or right. If you are an ordinary citizen of this country, it is obvious to you now that you don't have a voice. If we all took up the task of the lowest common denominator - regaining a voice and representation in Washington - we could pressure our congress into passing legislation for fully funded public elections that use our airwaves so that we can conduct our business of running our country.

Because writing thoughtful letters is time consuming, I suggest people just write one letter and make copies of it, or use someone else's letter that you like. Buy a roll of stamps for democracy, and send your letter to your representative's offices. Send them on the second Tuesday of the month. Send them weekly, send them daily if you can afford it. Send one once a month. Pile them high. Get them on the news. Make it so that the people in Washington have the cover that would allow them to do the right thing, because there's not a chance that they will do it on their own; it would be political suicide. They will only do it if we make them.

This might sound dumb to some people, but it's the only thing I can think of that doesn't involve a revolution with all that entails.

On edit: postcards might work just as well because of the security issues.

4. Good Points...So many of us have "No Voice" and that's not what the Founders of
Constitution ever thought would happene...that we'd end up with another "King George" we'd have to organize against...:-(

5.  It amazes me that we have to send them anything
To do the job they asked for and get paid for which is to represent the peoples best interests and to up hold the constitution .

I have to really wonder why they choose not to do their jobs and i refuse at this point to think they don't know what the people want.

6. In theory that's what they do, but since the Reagan revolution
money trumps citizenship. Congress knows better, but they have to appease the monied interests in order to stay in office. We have to become a force they can't ignore, and since everyone seems to have a job or two and things to do, dropping postcards in the mail is one way to protest on the fly. Sympathetic reps can start to talk about the bags of mail they're getting. Sympathetic newscasters can do stories showing photogenic bags of mail. You know, it can build a momentum that doesn't require anyone going to jail or getting shot. You know how we Americans are, we want it easy. It can't get any easier than this and it MIGHT work.

No, I don't work for the post office. :eyes:

7. Sadly....it's the Money/Power/Lobbyists and again 'the Power."
Shouldn't Congress want to feel as much power as the folks on Wall St. puling in Millions with Stock Options and the Revolving Door that when they fail..they just move on to a Board of another Company and pull down More Millions after bilking the company you ran into the ground and collected many millions from but still got a "Golden Parachute" from before you got put onto Another Board to drive THAT Company into Ruin while picking up more millions and eventually you get put on a Government Panel to "Assess Damage" of what you did and the Taxpayers like you and me give MORE MILLIONS for your salary that goes into a "Certified Gov't Report" picked up by Forbes, Wall St. Journal...The Economist and spammed on Fox and the rest of Murdoch's funded outlets as the TRUTH?

We are SO GAMED... It's "Musical Chairs" on Wall St. with "fallen/trashed CEO's/CFO's leaving their Companies in RUIN but managing to move on to ANOTHER FAILING COMPANY which the MSFINANCIAL WHORE MEDIA will bill as a "Turn Around Success" just cause you put your butt in another Board of Directors Seat...and it's only about maybe Top 15 Known Names who keep revolving around these "BOD" picking up these huge salaries with the Private Jets..Corporate Jets...Golden Parachutes and Millions & Billions of our 401-K Money, Pension Money and all the rest...as they "Off-Shore" their Investments and live the "Robber Baron/Gilded Age Lifestyle" of the late 1980' and '90's.

Give me a Break these folks need to be in PRISON FOR LIFE! But, they keep REVOLVING in the MUSICAL CHAIRS..of CEO/CFO to BOARD to Back again as CEO/CFO of what they've failed in before!!!!

9. MAYBE a few DU"ers are Making Others SICK over the State of Things with Bummer Posts
Be that as it may, the candidates are chosen by the People in a Democratic process, and nobody has more than one vote.
All the rest is just spin, and we are not doing the People justice by assuming they are simple M$M's sheeple.

Cheer up, dammit! You've been reading too many DU posts!
And be more selective and avoid the bummer psy operatives.

10. Hey, there are alot of low-income Christian Republicans
(Sure, there are wealthy Rethugs, but there are ALOT of poor ones to in those middle earth red states)....What those low income Chritstian zealots do though is VOTE, they would stand in the rain & cold for hours to vote...

If Democrats show up next November & of course assuming there is no election fraud, we will win this election & bring about the change that is so desperately needed....

Voter turnout is key, we must ALL do our part there..
