Post Thanksgiving mistakes.
I do it every year, and this year was no exception. I cut the big fatty tail-butt part off, forgetting you're suppose to use it to flap it in and keep the juices in.

1. I did that with the neck skin last year...lopped it off to the point where
I couldn't stitch it together to keep the innards all steamed up.

This year I'm gonna tie it in a knot, damn the presentation.

:P

4. You cook the innards?
I'm impressed. I just use the cavities for stuffing.

7. Naw, not really the innards, more like the fixin's.
:spank:

I use the innards to make giblet gravy (my fave part of the whole shebang).

10. I haven't progressed that far. Maybe I'll try it next year.
After I've learned how to make creamy gravy, instead of the soupy stuff I end up with.

3. What was the restaurant?
It's not like steak where you can go to a nice steak restaurant. Who specializes in turkey dinners?

6. Mom wanted to make homemade hot fudge sauce for the vanilla ice cream.
She cooked it a little too long and at too high a temp, and it turned into caramel.

When it was spooned onto the ice cream, I probably shouldn't have quipped, "This is the best chocolate sauce I ever chewed."

12. lol!
Cooking with sugars is very tricky. The last time I tried it, the spoon got cemented into the mass and I just chucked the whole thing, saucepan included, into the trash. It was that, or submit it into an art show.

13. I already corrected that mistake.
That's why I'm cooking my own bird. Wish I had started doing it earlier, when the kids were small.

11. I forgot to put sugar in the pumpkin pie mix last year
Which resulted in me being thankful that I tasted it before pouring it into the pie shell and baking.

14. I had a friend cook the pumpkin pie
and I must have given her a flimsy aluminium pie pan because the whole thing collapsed when she pulled it out of the oven. In revenge, (because she had to clean the oven out,) she picked up the pieces and put it into one of those fancy ceramic pie carriers, which looks like a delicious pie. So all during dinner I ranted and raved about the pumpkin pie recipe and how I was looking forward to eating the pie for dessert. When it was time, she quietly picked up the ceramic piece and brought it infront of me and handed me a pie cutter. When I opened the lid and saw what was inside, she said my expression was worth the experience.

18. My mom once forgot to turn the oven on
for the turkey, so it sat in there frozen solid for hours. How she couldn't have noticed right away is beyond me, lol.

Happy Thanksgiving, all!
