BREAKING: Chris Matthews admits he is not a journalist
At least, that's what I take away from his surreal performance tonight on Hardballs. He is shocked -- SHOCKED, I TELL YOU! -- that no journalists mentioned Scooter Libby after Bush commuted his sentence. "Bush made it go away...brilliant!" He says it's just amazing that no one but no one in the press discussed Libby once Bush made it go away.

What the fuck are YOU Mr. Matthews, a goddam Wal Mart greeter??? You have a nightly NEWS program, and you dropped it just as quickly as those you chide. There is just as much blood on YOUR hands, you ass-kissing enabler of BushCo's death and destruction. Fuck you and your sudden enlightenment.

4. Jesus...he's kicking Bolton's sorry ass.
But he's just an entertainer, like Rush. He's not a journalist. He had no responsibility other than to give us a song and dance.

His conscience is getting to him. THIS week, anyway.

9. And he's crying about how his book did
Talking about how Bolton's book is on the best seller list right behind Plamme's book in the standings. Something he, Tweety, couldn't accomplish.

5. Gee Chris
you could have been the lone voice in the wilderness, but alas you were just another BushCo enabler.

He could have had real journalists on and could have questioned them as to why they were no longer asking questions. But no. Why should he be surprised when all the rest of the media acted just like he did?

Look in the mirror you twit.

6. He's not a journalist, and doesn't represent himself as one
That is actually healthy.

If Fox made O'Reilly and Hannity admit that, we'd be a lot better off.

7. Matthews, Olbermann and Abrams talked about Libby nonstop for at least a week
Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 05:49 PM by McCamy Taylor
All from an anti-Bush point of view. Lots of other journalists at places like the WaPo wasted lots of trees writing excuses about why Bush had done the correct thing, so they didn't ignore it either. The Libby pardon was the news topic everywhere for at least two solid weeks. Bush was shocked---shocked I say--at all the flack he got over that decision.

Do not ever look at the world through Tweety vision. He is forever going through the Looking Glass. For instance, he believes that he knew all along that W. was lying about his case for the war with Iraq, however we all know that Tweety never shared any of this knowledge with us, and being the motormouth he is, if Tweety suspected the truth, he would have blabbed. He would not have been able to help himself.

My grandmother was like this. Her world view would change when she got a new notion into her head, and then reality would change with it, and there was no convincing her that things were ever any other way. She was a great story teller. Very vivacious. A great people person. Everyone loved her. I think some charming, hypo manic people just charm themselves right out of reality.

11. One of the best lines I have seen here:
"What the fuck are YOU Mr. Matthews, a goddam Wal Mart greeter???"
Great line, Atman.

And the answer is - Yes.

12. He's NOT a journalist, any more than "Morning Joe" is. Just because people are on tee vee does NOT
make them journalists. He's never claimed to be one, either.

He does NOT have a nightly news program either. He has a program of political commentary re: the events of the day. He invites a wide variety of people on his program, and he doesn't claim to be "fair and balanced" either--he gets the guests who are willing to come on.

Once more, with feeling. He is not a journalist. He is a PUNDIT.

He's a former political operative/staffer, doing all sorts of jobs for everyone from Jimmy Carter to Tip O'Neill to Ed Muskie (all Dems, FWIW), who got a job in media 'commenting' on the political scene. His wife used to be in media, too, not that it matters.

Why people think he is a journalist, and get angry at him because he does not hold to "journalistic" standards, I have no idea. He isn't PAID to do that.

He doesn't have a BA in journalism, and he's never once had a job as a journalist.

Stop imposing on him the journalists' standards. He is a PUNDIT. He calls them as HE--not you, me or anyone else-- sees them, and that is why GE/MSNBC pays him. It's for you to agree, or NOT. Like Pat Buchanan--another guy who is NOT a journalist. Or 'Morning Joe'--or Fucker Carlson, or even Keith Olbermann, who also is hardly impartial, and thus, is hardly a journalist. You pick the ones you like, and you pick the ones you hate and want to shake your fist at...but don't call them journalists, they're just pundits and entertainers.

16. just last week at the miami book fair he told someone in the audience who questioned him about his
change in point of view re: bush/iraq/war/wmd... matthews said (after blabbering about seeing the truth and always speaking truth to power) he said, "i am a journalist. that is what i am. that is what i do.i have to report the truth..."

i think the man is delusional sometimes.

18. Mr. Mathhews certainly
has mentioned it numerous times since then. He hasn't had any "sudden enlightenment." You might want to read things such as Joe Wilson's book (page 1, Valerie Wilson's book, or Isikoff & Corn's "Hubris" in order to understand how wrong you are. Or you could read some of the Libby court documents.

19. He's selling Scottie's Book! ...nothing more to see there...move along...

He's so contorted with his own conscience he spins in the wind...but he owes his career not to GE but to Roger Ailes. He will spin and spin...but he needs to look to his future. He's all we have besides Olbermann...so on those nights when he "appears" to be trying to help Dem...just remember he's no more than a paid shill to spin from side to side always looking for the highest bidder for his power and job.

I watch him when I can stand it...but I gave up hope the more and more I could see how incredible his "spinning" for "himself" is. He's a master at "double talk" and "self preservation." If he sometimes appears to have "awakened" it's only an illusion with him. It's his job to appear "fair and balanced" or in his case "bi-polar" shifting and spinning from show to show always keeping one audience or another either enthralled or angry with him.
