The immigrant "Native Americans" slaughtered vast numbers of indigenous animals and drove several into extinction. The only reason the Native Americans were not more destructive of the environment was that they didn't have the technology to be more destructive. It was not "moral superiority" that caused them to live in balance with their environment, it was lack of ability to do otherwise. If they had had the technology to do so they would have expanded their population fast enough to wipe out even more wildlife.
