Ohio Drops Social Security Card Rule For License Renewals
Ohio Drops Social Security Card Rule For License Renewals

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- People seeking to renew an Ohio driver's license are no longer required to produce a Social Security card, a move that should reduce wait times at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, officials said Tuesday.

The policy change, effective this week, won't compromise security or the bureau's verification process, Department of Public Safety director Henry Guzman said in a statement.

The change also applies to commercial driver's license renewals and state identification card renewals.

"Once a person comes in to first get their driver's license, they're in our system. They've already proven who they are," said Julie Ehrhart, a representative for the motor vehicles bureau.

1. Gee, I renewed my license almost 3 weeks ago and didn't need an SS card...
Renewed my license in North Olmsted, OH on Nov 2. They asked for 2 forms of ID. I used the old license and a credit card.

3. Honestly, I've become politically apathetic....
Our side can't offer anything less repugnant than their side any more, so I salvage the tatters of my life ridiculing the insane (in the dungeon).

:)

4. I haven't seen my actual SS card since I was about 12
I've memorized the number, obviously...but what's the fucking card for? It's a piece of paper with type-written numbers on it. Any doofus with a $49 Epson printer could make one. Why on earth is it considered a valid form of identification? If you know the number, they punch it in -- it's either going to match your name (and thus the other forms of ID you have) or it's not.
